KRDO NewsChannel 13 first introduced 4-year-old Carson Kight in a story last week. Since then, his YouTube video with UPS has been viewed more than 1 million times and has been shared around the world.
Last year, UPS made Carson a driver for a day. This year, his mom wished for more kids to have the same experience and share in the joy of a wish delivered. So we gathered three new kids to take on the challenge of becoming UPS's littlest (and most adorable) drivers. Share your wish at http://www.ups.com/wishes. #WishesDelivered

COLORADO SPRINGS - A little boy with dreams of becoming a UPS driver was granted his wish. Four-year-old Carson Kight was featured in a UPS "Your Wishes Delivered" video that was released this week. Carson's fascination with UPS started with Mr. Ernie, a delivery driver in his neighborhood. Full story at the Denver Channel:http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/4-year-old-colorado-springs-boy-gets-tiny-ups-truck-to-deliver-packages Last month UPS surprised Carson with a special delivery. Inside Ernie's delivery truck was a smaller UPS truck for Carson to drive around his neighborhood. "Carson knew nothing about it and did not know Mr. Ernie would come or that there was a little truck inside the big truck," said Karen Kight. Carson now spends his time hand-delivering packages with cookies and muffins to his neighbors. Nowadays his is the only brown truck you'll see on the street. Mr. Ernie was moved to a different route over the summer.

UPS earlier today announced that its fleet of alternative fuel delivery vehicles has now driven more than 200 million miles since 2000. The alternative fuel fleet (AFV) now numbers more than 1,900 and another 62 vehicles have just been ordered. Doing the math, including the earth's circumference at the equator, the total mileage accumulated by UPS's "green fleet" is the equivalent to circling the Earth more than 8,000 times. In addition, while it took 11 years to do it the first time, it should only take another 6-years to do it again.

Call it "extreme ground shipping," or "Lazy UPS Guy" if you're tracking YouTube. "I was sitting right there playing XBOX, and I see a big brown thing pass by," said John Torres, who may have seen the next viral sensation live from his Gainesville home. "He probably wasn't thinking or just lazy like the video says," he said. The video, uploaded on January 14 and already has close to 600 views, shows a UPS driver heading North along 34th Street, driving on the sidewalk- directly through a school zone. "It's a very mobile area, we see bicycles and pedestrians all the time," said Sgt. Joe Raulerson with the Gainesville Police Department. If an officer witnessed the delivery, the driver would have been hit with a $154 citation, and three points on his license. The UPS public relations team released this statement to TV20: "'Thanks so much for calling this to our attention. What is depicted on this video is in no way condoned by UPS. We don't tolerate any violation of UPS safe driving practices and will take corrective action, including termination, for anyone who isn't following our safe driving standards. The location is not clearly apparent, so we're investigating this video further. We value the unique trust the public places in UPS for the highest safety standards on the roadways.' Susan Rosenberg | UPS Public Relations Manager." "Right when they get out of school, that's pretty much when UPS comes around," said Torres, who is happy no one was hurt but doesn't think "lazy UPS guy" should be fired. "Maybe put him back in packaging," he said.

While an individual person may not save much by only making right turns, a huge corporation like UPS has proven since 2004 how avoiding left turns in its trucks can significantly increase its bottomline while reducing emissions and accidents. With nearly 100,000 trucks and hundreds of aircraft, UPS averages 15.8 million packages delivered daily worldwide. While an individual person may not save much by only making right turns, since UPS implemented a right turn policy in 2004, they have significantly increased profits while reducing emissions and accidents. UPS estimates the right-turn-heavy policy, combined with its routing software, shortens routes by 20.4 million miles and saves 10 million gallons of gas while delivering an additional 350,000 packages and reducing CO2 emissions by about 20,000 metric tons each year. UPS engineers noticed how waiting to turn left caused trucks to fall behind on their schedules, consume more gas, and increase the probability of accidents. Their software maps routes with only right-hand turns unless it's quicker or easier to proceed with a left-hand turn. A driver estimates they do about 90% right-hand turns. The television show Mythbusters tested the policy with one route using 8 left and 4 right turns, and another route using 1 left and 23 right turns. The UPS-like route was just over 1 mile and 9 minutes longer, but it reduced gas consumption from 6.8 to 4 pounds. UPS' software probably would've added one or two more left-hand turns to be more efficient on time while still saving gas.

There’s a UPS parking lot packed with truck trailers behind our Hell’s Kitchen office. On any given day–but during the holiday season in particular–the place is buzzing with activity, as its delivery fleet hitches up to and drops off the trailers. Due to space constraints, this plays out like an IRL game of Tetris, which we captured from a camera mounted on our roof in this 24-hour timelapse. Watch the entire puzzle-like dance play out in about three minutes above. Good luck making it through to the end. A UPS driver is caught on camera carelessly throwing packages. Joanne Brown says she's had numerous problems with damaged packages. So last week when it came time for holiday deliveries, she asked her daughter, Amber, to be on high alert. While the duo was prepared to meet a delivery man, they never expected to see what they saw. "He didn't think anybody was home. My car wasn't in the driveway. I was in Chattanooga. And he didn't know my daughter was catching it," says Joanne Brown. When Joanne got back, she was floored by her daughter's recorded video. This UPS employee wasn't delivering a lump of coal, but Brown says it felt like it with the way the package was dropped off. "I saw packages laying on the ground beside the truck and I saw two more being thrown out." We had a number of questions for a UPS spokesperson including why they showed up in a U-Haul. A spokesperson tells us that during the holiday busy season, They use the trucks to increase their fleet. After seeing the clip, Brown had, had enough. "After it happened several times, I decided okay I need to report this gentleman." While Brown reached out to as many supervisors as possible, she says she's still without any solid solutions. "The ethics of it! He should not be throwing our package that we pay our hard earned money and pay and throw like they're nothing." by Mikaya Thurmond
