Google tests drone delivery service in Australian outback

02:03
Watch engineers at Google trial their new delivery system that uses self-flying vehicles to drop off parcels in remote locations. With companies from fast food restaurants to Amazon all attempting to perfect delivery by drone it was only a matter of time before Google unveiled its vision. The resulting aircraft by Project Wing is larger than many rival drones, with a wingspan of approximately 1.5m (4.9ft), and is powered by four electrically-driven propellers. So far it has successfully delivered small items, including a first aid kit, candy bars, dog treats, and water to farmers in Queensland, Australia. The prototype Google drone is able to hover above its destination and drops its load on a string. The future of drone delivery, however, remains uncertain. Google has yet to find a commercial partner to bring the technology to the wider public and opponents have voiced concerns over safety and privacy. Delivery Drones | DHL steals UPS thunder

03:15
***************** If you would like to support Drone & Sundry for free and browse the internet without being tracked by ads and data trackers, download and use Brave browser: https://brave.com/dro980 ***************** Another day another #deliverydrone. This time, real world point to point deliveries in European weather. Last week UPS announced a partnership with Zipline to trial medical delivery flights in Rwanda. DHL are already out there doing it with their Parcelcopter tilt-rotor VTOL system. DHL Parcel has successfully concluded a three-month test of its third Parcelcopter generation. The trial run, part of a larger research and innovation project, was conducted between January and March 2016 in the Bavarian community of Reit im Winkl. It represents the first time worldwide that a parcel service provider has directly integrated a parcelcopter logistically into its delivery chain. Private customers in Reit im Winkl and up on the Winklmoosalm plateau were invited to test out the specially developed Packstations, dubbed the Parcelcopter Skyport. During the three month trial period, they could simply insert their shipments into the Skyport to initiate automated shipment and delivery per Parcelcopter. A total of 130 autonomous loading and offloading cycles were ultimately performed. As part of the trial, the technically upgraded vehicle was able to deal with heavier loads, longer distances and delivery to an alpine region notable for its geographical and meteorological challenges. The first task was to master the rapidly changing weather conditions and severe temperature fluctuation in the test area. With that achieved, the DHL Parcelcopter then performed a series of flawless flights. Each round trip from valley to plateau at roughly 1,200 meters above sea level covered eight kilometers of flight. The drone’s cargo was typically either sporting goods or urgently needed medicines and it arrived at the Alm station within just eight minutes of take-off. The same trip by car takes more than 30 minutes during winter. Why Home Depot Failed In China

05:54
Home Depot bought Home Way, a Chinese home improvement company, in 2006. The acquisition marked the first time Home Depot had expanded beyond North America. With a booming economy and strong real estate market, China seemed like an easy win for Home Depot. Within six years, the company had closed all its stores in China. In the 1990s, the Chinese government loosened regulations on the housing market, allowing its 1.2 billion citizens to own private homes for the first time since the Communist revolution in 1949. Home improvement and furniture companies like Sweden's IKEA and the U.K.'s B&Q rushed to meet the need. In 2006, Home Depot bought the Chinese home improvement company Home Way, giving them 12 stores in the country. With its booming economy and strong real estate market, China seemed like it would be an easy win for America's home improvement giant. But by 2012, Home Depot closed the last seven of its 12 original stores. The company doesn't break out sales data by country, but data from Euromonitor shows that China only accounted for about .3% of Home Depot's annual net sales. Analysts say that Home Depot failed to do its homework on the Chinese market, missing the mark on consumer needs and culture. » Subscribe to CNBC: https://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC » Subscribe to CNBC TV: https://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBCtelevision » Subscribe to CNBC Classic: https://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBCclassic About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. 5 Drone Shooting Tips: How-to Film Awesome Aerial Shots - Phantom 4

02:50
DJI Phantom 4: http://amzn.to/28WLZiz You can capture amazing aerial drone photo and video shots with the DJI Phantom 4, and here are 5 Tips and Tricks on capturing those awesome shots... (kinda like Casey Neistat shots, but safer ;-) 5 Shooting Tips: 1. Use the cool built-in special features/modes; my favorite is Active Track. Super quick and easy to track an object while moving, plus spin around the subject with the right stick, and ascend or descend in height with the left stick, while rotating around. It's a complex move that's easy to perform and looks awesome. 2. Dial in your video settings. I like to shoot in a flat color profile for color grading in editing. Also, shoot in 4K or if you want buttery smooth slow-motion shots, stop down to 1080p for 60 or 120fps. 3. Racing around in Sport mode. Keep your shots flying straight so you don't have whiplash or zig-zags in your shots. Bonus trick, film in high frame rate (60 or 120fps), then when you slow down the shot, camera is still moving at a good rate, but the people/subject is moving in slow motion. 4. Keep your moves slow and steady - stay away from quick pans and tilts 5. Practice, practice, practice. With more practice, you'll become more confident and comfortable at flying, plus you can then start capturing more risky shots, while being safe. *Secret Tip #6: VR Goggles while flying FPV!! Can SpaceX Make Point-To-Point Space Travel Profitable?

09:07
SpaceX and Blue Origin think point-to-point space travel will replace flights as the preferred means of passenger travel. A plane ride from New York City to Shanghai is about 15 hours - and it could be as long as 29 hours with connecting flights. With point-to-point travel, SpaceX says it could get you there in less than an hour. How realistic is this approach to long-haul travel? As companies like Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic and Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin close in on offering trips to the edge of space, space tourism is becoming a possibility. But what if spaceships went farther — and faster? Point-to-point space travel has been touted as a business line by SpaceX, Elon Musk’s rocket and spacecraft company. Why McDonald's Doesn't Have A Vegan Meat Burger In The US

08:39
As consumer diets continue to shift toward healthier food, plant-based alternatives are becoming more and more popular. Fast-food chains like Burger King, White Castle, and Carl's Jr. are rolling out fake meat options. But will Mcdonald's - the world's most famous fast-food restaurant - jump on board? In the 12 months ending in March 2019, restaurant operators increased purchases of plant based protein 36 percent. That's in an environment where foot traffic in restaurants has remained relatively flat since 2014. Traditional veggie burgers started popping up on grocery store shelves in the 1980s. Restaurants added them to their menus as an easy option for vegetarian diners. But veggie burgers have also gotten a bad rap. Made with black beans, lentils or tofu, they don't really taste like a real burger. In fact, they're usually pretty tasteless. Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods are trying to change that. Their plant-based burgers mimic actual beef’s taste, texture and look. The Beyond Burger uses pea proteins and beet juice to achieve taste and texture. The Impossible Burger has found its own secret ingredient: heme. The iron-containing molecule is found in our blood as well as beef. It’s what gives meat a pink color and a metallic taste. To make a vegan friendly burger that contains the molecule, Impossible Foods uses genetically modified soy. And as an added bonus, the heme makes an Impossible Burger look like it’s bleeding juices -- just like a meat patty. Why The Inequality Gap Is Growing Between Rich And Poor

08:07
For forty years, the U.S.-led global economy has produced an enormous improvement in human welfare. The percentage of the world’s population living on less than $1.90 per day fallings from 42% to 10%. At the same time, income inequality has surged in countries with advanced economics. Nowhere has it surged more than the United States, where reliance on free-market forces magnifies rewards for those at the top while leaving others behind. How Mega Millions And Powerball Jackpots Grew So Large

14:19
While Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots have grown in recent years, America's lottery system goes back a long time. Lotteries in colonial times helped finance some of America's roads, bridges, and schools like Harvard and Yale. Today, state-sponsored lotteries contribute millions state budgets, but some critics question how effective they actually are. In October, an anonymous woman in South Carolina won the $1.6 billion Mega Millions jackpot. Jackpots have been on the rise since the two major lottery organizations, Mega Millions and Powerball, struck a deal to cross-sell tickets in each others' member states in 2010. How Robots Can Assist - Not Replace - Humans In Factories

08:44
On average there are 84 robots for every factory 10,000 workers, according to the International Federation of Robotics. For years, robots have had a bad reputation for stealing workers' jobs. The rise of robots in factories has also increased the possibility of injury. Traditionally, robots needed to operate in separate spaces from humans. Collaborative robots, or cobots, have been working with humans on the factory floor for years, but when it comes to the large-scale industrial robots that can lift and move massive pieces of manufacturing, the danger to human workers is so great that the robots are bolted down to the factory floor behind fences so a human never comes near them. Veo Robotics recently rolled out its new sensor technology, which gives robots spatial awareness of every object and obstacle in their reach. Amazon Testing Drone Delivery System

01:20
Support My Channel By Shopping on Amazon! http://amzn.to/2atadUZ SUBSCRIBE https://goo.gl/OXghgH https://www.facebook.com/deejay.gabriel.7 Amazon's chief executive has revealed that the company is testing a new service involving delivery by mini-drones to get packages to customers in just 30 minutes. Jeff Bezos appeared on CBS television's 60 Minutes programme in the US where he played a video from their website showing tiny robotic devices, called 'octocopters', picking up items in small yellow buckets and whizzing them through the air. "I know this looks like science fiction. It's not," Mr Bezos said. "We can do half-hour delivery ... and we can carry objects, we think, up to five pounds which covers 86% of the items that we deliver." The mini-drones are powered by electric motors and could cover areas within a 10-mile radius of fulfillment centres, thus covering a significant portion of the population in urban areas in the US. The retail giant's ambitious project still requires additional safety testing and federal approval but Mr Bezos estimated that Amazon 'Prime Air', as it would be called, would be up and running in four to five years. They operate autonomously and drop the items at the target locations thanks to GPS coordinates transmitted to them. "It's very green, it's better than driving trucks around," said Mr Bezos. Amazon said the octocopters would be "ready to enter commercial operations as soon as the necessary regulations are in place," noting that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was actively working on rules for unmanned aerial vehicles. It projected a more optimistic timeline than Mr Bezos himself for the project to be activated, saying the FAA's rules could be in place as early as 2015 and that Amazon Prime Air would be ready at that time. Mr Bezos hinted that part of the motivation behind the mini-drones was to make sure Amazon remains on the cutting edge of the retail industry. "Companies have short life spans ... And Amazon will be disrupted one day," he said. "I would love for it to be after I'm dead." It is not known if there are plans for the service to be launched outside of the US.
