Doctors vs. UPS Drivers: Who Makes More Money? The answer may surprise you. Don't discount that to become a doctor you must go to 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, and 3-7 years of residency. That translates to a great deal of opportunity cost, lost income earning potential, and student debt. A UPS driver is caught on camera carelessly throwing packages. Joanne Brown says she's had numerous problems with damaged packages. So last week when it came time for holiday deliveries, she asked her daughter, Amber, to be on high alert. While the duo was prepared to meet a delivery man, they never expected to see what they saw. "He didn't think anybody was home. My car wasn't in the driveway. I was in Chattanooga. And he didn't know my daughter was catching it," says Joanne Brown. When Joanne got back, she was floored by her daughter's recorded video. This UPS employee wasn't delivering a lump of coal, but Brown says it felt like it with the way the package was dropped off. "I saw packages laying on the ground beside the truck and I saw two more being thrown out." We had a number of questions for a UPS spokesperson including why they showed up in a U-Haul. A spokesperson tells us that during the holiday busy season, They use the trucks to increase their fleet. After seeing the clip, Brown had, had enough. "After it happened several times, I decided okay I need to report this gentleman." While Brown reached out to as many supervisors as possible, she says she's still without any solid solutions. "The ethics of it! He should not be throwing our package that we pay our hard earned money and pay and throw like they're nothing." by Mikaya Thurmond

KRDO NewsChannel 13 first introduced 4-year-old Carson Kight in a story last week. Since then, his YouTube video with UPS has been viewed more than 1 million times and has been shared around the world.
While an individual person may not save much by only making right turns, a huge corporation like UPS has proven since 2004 how avoiding left turns in its trucks can significantly increase its bottomline while reducing emissions and accidents. With nearly 100,000 trucks and hundreds of aircraft, UPS averages 15.8 million packages delivered daily worldwide. While an individual person may not save much by only making right turns, since UPS implemented a right turn policy in 2004, they have significantly increased profits while reducing emissions and accidents. UPS estimates the right-turn-heavy policy, combined with its routing software, shortens routes by 20.4 million miles and saves 10 million gallons of gas while delivering an additional 350,000 packages and reducing CO2 emissions by about 20,000 metric tons each year. UPS engineers noticed how waiting to turn left caused trucks to fall behind on their schedules, consume more gas, and increase the probability of accidents. Their software maps routes with only right-hand turns unless it's quicker or easier to proceed with a left-hand turn. A driver estimates they do about 90% right-hand turns. The television show Mythbusters tested the policy with one route using 8 left and 4 right turns, and another route using 1 left and 23 right turns. The UPS-like route was just over 1 mile and 9 minutes longer, but it reduced gas consumption from 6.8 to 4 pounds. UPS' software probably would've added one or two more left-hand turns to be more efficient on time while still saving gas.

COLORADO SPRINGS - A little boy with dreams of becoming a UPS driver was granted his wish. Four-year-old Carson Kight was featured in a UPS "Your Wishes Delivered" video that was released this week. Carson's fascination with UPS started with Mr. Ernie, a delivery driver in his neighborhood. Full story at the Denver Channel:http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/4-year-old-colorado-springs-boy-gets-tiny-ups-truck-to-deliver-packages Last month UPS surprised Carson with a special delivery. Inside Ernie's delivery truck was a smaller UPS truck for Carson to drive around his neighborhood. "Carson knew nothing about it and did not know Mr. Ernie would come or that there was a little truck inside the big truck," said Karen Kight. Carson now spends his time hand-delivering packages with cookies and muffins to his neighbors. Nowadays his is the only brown truck you'll see on the street. Mr. Ernie was moved to a different route over the summer.

A new truck driver endures the most challenging part of his entire career, in their first year. Just a few things the new trucker ought to be aware of, so you know what to expect in your first year. The pay is often lower than a more experienced driver, the loads dispatched to new drivers aren't usually premium loads, new drivers are often kept out on the road for very long periods of time, and sometimes trucking companies take advantage of new drivers. This first year may be somewhat stressful, but is necessary to get in hours behind the wheel, and get experience to add to your resume. Trucking companies like to hire drivers with experience, so you may not have much choice when it comes to your very first job in the trucking industry. After the first year, things should start to get better..... the driver will usually travel with his own company truck, and not as a team member/driver trainer, so become more independent. The loads will be better and things will fall into place. If you love to drive, hang in there... it'll be worth it in the long run. For more information to find out what to really expect from that first year as a CDL driver, check out http://www.smart-trucking.com/new-truck-driver.html . ------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you're a truck driver, or interested in becoming a truck driver, be sure to subscribe to our Smart Trucking Channel for tips and advice which may be useful in your trucking career. http://www.recruiterconfidential.com to receive the complete 7 strategies and learn how to Turn Your Next Job Interview Into A Job Offer - for FREE! In this video, Stu Wetstein, #1 Amazon bestselling author and Founder of Recruiter Confidential discusses the fifth step of seven strategies for getting the offer. Recruiter Confidential teaches candidates the best job interviewing tips and strategies based on Stu's 20 years of experience in working with organizations ranging from Fortune 500 companies to some of the fastest growing and largest internet start-ups. Hi, it's Stu Wetstein with Recruiter Confidential. Welcome back for step five of The Seven Strategies for Getting the Offer in 2013. This is number five, interview skills. I am going to give you just a couple of quick tips on interviews. One, no matter what type of interview, these days you might have a phone interview, you might have a Skype interview where you got to do video conferencing. You might have a panel interview. You might go in and meet ten different people over the course of a couple of hours, like speed dating, whatever it is, you have to be polished, you have to practice. When we get into interview skills, it's not just about handling, why are you interested in working here. I I want you to practice and it's easy to just say, "Hey, practice," and then act like that's the tip, but how are you going to practice, so we already talked about using technology and doing this. You're practicing with your iPhone, nobody knows, you delete it, and you pick up tips that way. Okay, now we get to the next level, and that's where you build a support group, and you can call it whatever you want. You can call it a mastermind where you get together and you talk about the jobs you're interviewing for and you can support each other, but more importantly, it's so that you can practice some of these scenarios because again, what I've seen in so many candidates. I've probably been to like 10,000 job interviews in my life with all the candidates I've worked with. What I see is people not coming in and having a good, tight ability to tell their story. Here's what special about me. Here's why I am so interested in this company. Here's what my peers would say about me. Again, not a script, but something that doesn't sound like you made it up the day of the interview, and something where you get to answer with some depth. You get to say well not only could I tell you why I am interested in this company. Let me talk about my experience. Let me talk about the first time I got to know your company. There's so many different ways that you can use a question to your advantage, but you can't sort of do all of that. You can call some audibles the day of the interview, but most of this I want you to prepare, and I want you to get a group together. The last step in this, now you've sort of practiced on your phone, now you've got a support group. Your support group probably were peers or friends or people who were going to give you supportive, constructive criticism, but now you've got to get to the next level. If you're really going to get ready to go in front of a company, to deal with human resources professionals, to deal with hiring managers, to deal with the amount of competition. You really want to stand out. Well, you've probably got a bunch of experts at your house if your house is like my house, and that's where you test, you know, how strong your answers are, how comfortable you are, someone asking why maybe you went through a layoff or why you were at a company and you decided that it wasn't the right move and you ended up moving to a completely different industry. Hopefully the people who are closest to you are going to shoot you straight. If you work with them, if you work with understanding your answers, knowing where you're coming from and not making stuff up, but just telling your story and doing it in a way that's compelling, that's going to separate you from the reality of so many of the other candidates out there. So that's why I am insisting, I am imploring, I am beseeching you to really prepare and practice, and you can't do it the day of, and a lot of times the way interviews used to work, right, even ten years ago, you could do okay in one round of the interview, but they would bring you in for the face-to-face interview, and then you could get a little bit better as, you know, and kind of like you're going through the playoffs, but that's not how it works now. You don't want to get passed over in the very first part of the process, so you've got to be able to tell that story when you get that phone interview, when you get the Skype interview, when you get whatever opportunity, ten minutes, 15 minutes with the hiring manager to really not only be able to tell your story, but obviously to ask some really good, empowering questions about what it's going to be like, you know, a day in the life when you're in that job.

UPS earlier today announced that its fleet of alternative fuel delivery vehicles has now driven more than 200 million miles since 2000. The alternative fuel fleet (AFV) now numbers more than 1,900 and another 62 vehicles have just been ordered. Doing the math, including the earth's circumference at the equator, the total mileage accumulated by UPS's "green fleet" is the equivalent to circling the Earth more than 8,000 times. In addition, while it took 11 years to do it the first time, it should only take another 6-years to do it again.
