Sponsor: https://brilliant.org/mentourpilot/ Have you ever looked at the cockpit of a Boeing 737, 707 or 727 and wondered why there are a couple of "spare" windows above the regular cockpit windows? In this video I will tell you all about why those windows were fitted in the first place and why they seem to be disappearing from newer variants of the Boeing family. REASON WHY PLANES ARE PAINTED WHITE! Explained by CAPTAIN JOE

05:37
INSTAGRAM FLYWITHCAPTAINJOE: https://goo.gl/TToDlg MY WEBSITE: https://goo.gl/KGTSWK ►STAY INFORMED: https://goo.gl/ByheuP ◄ NEW FACEBOOK PAGE: https://goo.gl/heUKGb ————————————————————————————————— ▼▼My FLIGHT-KIT I highly recommend for you guys▼▼ MY HEADSET: https://amzn.to/2CrTrzz MY SUNGLASSES: https://amzn.to/2VY6FNo MY PILOT BAG: https://amzn.to/2DiWKux Company iPad: https://amzn.to/2W1zM2n ▼▼The VIDEO EQUIPMENT I use in my studio and outdoors▼▼ MY CAMERA: https://amzn.to/2T1VK3g LIGHTING: https://amzn.to/2szSRv4 IN-FLIGHT RECORDINGS: https://amzn.to/2VY7A0g —————————————————————————————————— Why are most planes painted white? When a brand-new plane rolls out of the factory, they are very often painted in a greenish anti-corrosive paint, so that the plane can fly or be moved to the final assembly line and paint shop. Therefore they are nicknamed the "green jets" and are a rare sight for plane spotters. But once the plane arrives at the paint shop, let´s take an Airbus A380 as an example, it takes approximately 34 painters, working in three shifts each day for fifteen days to wash, prepare and paint the plane. After 6000 working hours, they´ve roughly applied 1100 kilograms (2425 lbs) of paint onto the plane. And that procedure needs to be repeated every seven to eight years, depending on the use of the plane and cleaning schedule. After applying a minimum of two layers, the plane gains a few more pounds to its dry operating weight, and even more, if a third more colourful layer is sprayed onto it such as the company logo etc. Therefore putting fancy detailed liveries onto planes is not only costly at first, but also increases it´s operating cost. For example, a Boeing 737 paint job can be as heavy as 500 kilograms which equals 6 passengers who aren´t paying for their flight and increasing the fuel consumption. See more about it in the video :) BIG THANK YOU TO TLV1979 who provided me with this amazing picutres, please check out his great collection of aviation pictures at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/25695066@N00/ Thanks for watching, all the best your "Captain" Joe Outro Song: Joakim Karud & Dyalla - Wish you were here https://goo.gl/kJ9pef ALL COPYRIGHTS TO THIS VIDEO ARE OWNED BY FLYWITHCAPTAINJOE.COM ANY COPYING OR ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADING AND PUBLISHING ON OTHER PLATFORMS WILL FOLLOW LEGAL CONSEQUENCES

Initiating the descent at the right moment is one the things/procedures most flight students and even experienced pilots struggle with from time to time. Nowadays airliners are equipped with all sorts of helpful tools showing you when to start your descent but this systems still can´t anticipate the mood of the air traffic controller, which can always interfere with your descent. So watch the video and look out for some great and helpful thumb rules which will make your descent planning a lot easier. Thank you very much for your time! HOW TO FLY an ILS? Explained by CAPTAIN JOE

Last week we spoke about how the ILS works, and today I´ll show you how to fly an ILS and especially what easy rules of thumb are out there which will make your life on the ILS a lot easier. Definitely some great advice for flight students, and simulator pilots. Key facts you need to know about the ILS: -Localizer deviation by one dot is 0,8° -Glideslope deviation by one dot is 0.4° -Imagine flying into a funnel, more space to correct at the wider part -Less space and higher sensitivity the closer you come to the runway -Standard turning rate of planes 3°/ second -Time for turn in seconds = How much heading to turn divide by 3 -Bank angle = airspeed divided by 10 plus 7 -Wind correction angle: Wind deviation x Windspeed / TAS (True airspeed) -Vertical Speed on 3° Glideslope = Groundspeed times 5 Quote from video: ... These are the basics to capture and maintain the localizer and glideslope of the ILS, keep in mind, making corrections until you’re three to four nautical miles away from the threshold is relatively easy as you can do bigger corrections. But after passing the 1000 feet gate, you have to be fully established on the ILS, cause most airline standard operating procedure demand to perform a go-around if you are deviating one dot off the ILS to either direction. And the closer you get to the threshold the more sensitive the ILS becomes. Imagine flying through a funnel, you’ve got loads of space to correct where the funnel is wider, but the narrower it becomes, the less space you have. Now you might think flying an ILS is fairly simple and easy. It sure is if you practice it on a daily basis, but your practice is only effective with the auto-thrust, autopilot and flight directors disengaged. MYSTERIOUS BARKING SOUND on AIRBUS? All about the PTU explained by "Captain"Joe

What is that barking sound coming from below the cabin floor as soon as we reach the gate position? Have you ever wondered what is going on in the cargo compartment where this very strange noise is coming from. Many people refer to this as the "Airbus Barking Dog Sound". This strange barking sound emits from the PTU, the Power Transfer Unit which is a substantial part of the Airbus hydraulic system. I explain in further detail when the PTU is being operated and it´s purpose. Now the Airbus A320 hydraulics consist of three independent system, named in colours, green, blue and yellow and one of their highest priorities is to pressure the actuators to move the flight controls. the green system is powered by an engine driven hydraulic pump, engine number 1, so in flying direction the engine to your left hand side and the yellow system is powered by engine number 2 but can also be powered by an electric backup pump. The blue system is powered by an electric pump only but isn´t associated with the PTU. It does, however, have its own unique backup mechanism, the Ram Air Turbine, but that´s a whole another video. So imagine the PTU as a reversible motor pump located between the green and yellow systems.  Hydraulic fluid from either system can drive the pump to pressurise the other hydraulic system.  But the fluids only drive the pump so the remain isolated from each other, meaning they don´t mix Each hydraulic system normally operates at 3000psi and if the difference between the green and yellow system exceeds 500psi, the system energises the PTU to pressurise the low system.  In other words, the green or yellow hydraulic pump has failed and is being pressurised from the other system through the PTU. What the video for more information :) Thanks for your time and see you next thursday. Make sure to stop by my Instagram account at "flywithcaptainjoe" and subscribe my channel for more upcoming video. All the best, Your "Captain" Joe ONE MISTAKE IN VIDEO, you preferably start engine number 2 first and then engine number 1, in that sequence! Sorry about that !

WHAT is a HOLDING PATTERN? PART 1 Explained by CAPTAIN JOE

This is the right video for you. A holding pattern for instrument flight rules (IFR) aircraft is usually a racetrack pattern based on a holding fix. This fix can be a radio beacon such as a non-directional beacon (NDB) or VHF omnidirectional range (VOR). The fix is the start of the first turn of the racetrack pattern. Aircraft will fly towards the fix, and once there will enter a predefined racetrack pattern. A standard holding pattern uses right-hand turns and takes approximately 4 minutes to complete (one minute for each 180 degree turn, and two one-minute straight ahead sections).[1] Deviations from this pattern can happen if long delays are expected; longer legs (usually two or three minutes) may be used, or aircraft with distance measuring equipment (DME) may be assigned patterns with legs defined in nautical miles rather than minutes. Less frequent turns are more comfortable for passengers and crew. Additionally, left-hand turns may be assigned to some holding patterns if there are airspace or traffic restrictions nearby. In the absence of a radio beacon, the holding fix can be any fixed point in the air, and can be created using two crossing VHF omnidirectional range radials (also called intersection), or it can be at a specific distance from a VOR using a coupled distance measuring equipment. When DME is used, the inbound turn of the racetrack may be permanently defined by distance limits rather than in minutes. Furthermore, in appropriately equipped aircraft, GPS waypoints may be used to define the holding pattern, eliminating the need for ground-based navigational aids entirely. A hold for visual flight rules aircraft is usually a (smaller) racetrack pattern flown over something easily recognizable on the ground, such as a bridge, highway intersection or lake. he primary use of a holding is delaying aircraft that have arrived at their destination but cannot land yet because of traffic congestion, poor weather, or runway unavailability (for instance, during snow removal or emergencies). Several aircraft may fly the same holding pattern at the same time, separated vertically by 1,000 feet or more. This is generally described as a stack or holding stack. As a rule, new arrivals will be added at the top. The aircraft at the bottom of the stack will be taken out and allowed to make an approach first, after which all aircraft in the stack move down one level, and so on. Air traffic control (ATC) will control the whole process, in some cases using a dedicated controller (called a stack controller) for each individual pattern. One airport may have several holding patterns; depending on where aircraft arrive from or which runway is in use, or because of vertical airspace limitations. Since an aircraft with an emergency has priority over all other air traffic, they will always be allowed to bypass the holding pattern and go directly to the airport (if possible). Obviously, this causes more delays for other aircraft already in the stack. But see more in this video! The pilot´s logbook is a key element in your career on becoming an airline pilot. If you want to apply for any flight job, the employer will ask you how many hours have you flown, to assess how much flying experience you´ve had in the past. Nowadays, there are of course all sorts of Apps to record you flight hours, but I highly recommend that you stick to old fashion way and write down your hours in a proper pilots log book. So enjoy the video, and I´ll go through each column step by step! All the best and have fun collection you precious first flight hours! Joe

54 PLANES in 25 MINUTES | Entire Morning Rush | Sydney Airport Plane Spotting

25:47
Featured Aircraft: A330s, A380s, B747s, B777s & B787s! Early November last year I was up in Sydney and able to spend an entire morning viewing and filming the morning rush from one of their best vantage points. Previously, I've uploaded a lot of my catches from this particular morning but there's still a good amount of heavies that I was never able to fit into any videos. Instead, i've been saving them so I could showcase Sydney's entire morning rush in full force without having to only use clips that I've already uploaded. Onto the rush itself, the variety of heavy aircraft seen in summer from 6am all the way through to lunchtime is incredible. Its a peak time for flight between the Middle East, Asia and America which make up the majority of destinations that have direct connections to Sydney. Without further ado, I hope you enjoy these 54 heavy aircraft landings from up close! _____________________________________________________________ FEATURED AIRCRAFT 00:00 | Virgin Australia Airbus A330-200 Landing from Perth 00:33 | Etihad Airways Airbus A380-800 Landing from Abu Dhabi | TMALL Livery 01:03 | Qantas Boeing 747-400 Landing from San Francisco 01:38 | Qantas Airbus A380-800 Landing from Dallas 02:05 | Hainan Airlines Airbus A330-200 Landing from Changsha 02:38 | Qantas Airbus A330-200 Landing from Manila 03:00 | Qantas Airbus A330-200 Landing from Jakarta 03:30 | Qantas Airbus A380-800 Landing from London via Dubai 04:03 | Qantas Airbus A330-200 Landing from Perth 04:32 | British Airways Boeing 777-300ER Landing from London via Singapore 05:02 | Korean Air Airbus A380-800 Landing from Seoul 05:38 | Capital Airlines Airbus A330-200 Landing from Qingdao 06:08 | Thai Airways Boeing 747-400 Landing from Bangkok 06:41 | Qantas Airbus A330-300 Landing from Bangkok | Rainbow Roo Livery 07:07 | Emirates Airbus A380-800 Landing from Dubai 07:37 | Singapore Airlines Airbus A380-800 Landing from Singapore 08:10 | Cathay Pacific Airbus A330-300 Landing from Hong Kong 08:39 | Jetstar Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner Landing from Denpasar 09:06 | Garuda Indonesia Airbus A330-300 Landing from Denpasar 09:35 | American Airlines Boeing 787-9 Landing from Los Angeles 10:02 | Qantas Airbus A380-800 Landing from Los Angeles 10:30 | United Airlines Boeing 787-8 Landing from San Francisco 10:56 | China Southern Airlines Airbus A330-300 Landing from Shenzhen 11:21 | Delta Airlines Boeing 777-200LR Landing from Los Angeles 11:48 | United Airlines Boeing 787-9 Landing from Los Angeles 12:18 | Asiana Airlines Airbus A380-800 Landing from Seoul 12:53 | Jetstar Boeing 787-8 Landing from Melbourne 13:16 | China Eastern Airlines Airbus A330-200 Landing from Nanjing 13:42 | Qantas Boeing 747-400ER Landing from Hong Kong 14:11 | Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 Landing from Ho Chi Minh City 14:34 | Philippine Airlines Airbus A330-300 Landing from Manila 15:01 | China Eastern Airlines Airbus A330-200 Landing from Shanghai 15:26 | Air Canada Boeing 777-200LR Landing from Vancouver 15:50 | Emirates Airbus A380-800 Landing from Dubai via Bangkok 16:17 | Qantas Boeing 747-400ER Landing from Tokyo 16:48 | Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300ER Landing from Hong Kong 17:15 | Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-200ER Landing from Singapore 17:39 | Virgin Australia Boeing 777-300ER Landing from Los Angeles 18:05 | China Southern Airlines Airbus A330-300 Landing from Guangzhou 18:28 | ANA Boeing 787-9 Landing from Tokyo 18:45 | Xiamen Airlines Boeing 787-8 Landing from Xiamen 19:14 | Air Asia Airbus A330-300 Landing from Kuala Lumpur 19:35 | Malaysia Airlines Airbus A380-800 Landing from Kuala Lumpur 20:10 | Air New Zealand Boeing 787-9 Landing from Auckland 20:34 | Cebu Pacific Airbus A330-300 Landing from Manila 21:02 | Singapore Airlines Airbus A380-800 Landing from Singapore 21:33 | China Airlines Airbus A330-300 Landing from Taipei 22:05 | Qantas Boeing 787-9 Landing from Melbourne 22:32 | China Eastern Airlines Airbus A330-200 Landing from Xi'an 23:03 | Virgin Australia Airbus A330-200 Landing from Melbourne 23:33 | Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300ER Landing from Hong Kong 24:04 | FlyScoot Boeing 787-9 Landing from Singapore 24:30 | Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 Landing from Hanoi 24:55 | Fiji Airways Airbus A330-200 Landing from Nadi _____________________________________________________________ EQUIPMENT Camera: Panasonic HC VXF995 External Mic: Rode VideoMic Pro + Deadcat Editing Software: Adobe Premier Pro CC Tripod: Libec LX7 Tripod System _____________________________________________________________ SOCIAL MEDIA Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/HD-Melbourne-Aviation-1665713550335569 Google+ - https://plus.google.com/b/112121946864481385641/+HDMelbourneAviation?pageId=112121946864481385641 Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/hd_melbourne_aviation/

Every Airport Runway Has 2 Numbers On It — Here’s Why

02:07
Every runway in the world is numbered...twice. These two numbers are closely linked to a shifting magnetic north, but are essential for airports to direct traffic through all the different runways. SR-71 Cockpit Checkout

19:58
https://www.patreon.com/erikjohnston This video is available for purchase. Please contact me if you would like to purchase a dvd. Autographed copies by Richard Graham are available as well. Email me at veterantales@gmail.com A correction in the video, Rich said the navigation map was from a 16mm film, he meant 35mm. Richard Graham was nice enough to give us a cockpit checkout in both the pilot and RSO stations. We shot this on location at the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field Dallas Texas. This simulator was used to train every operational SR pilot before they ever set foot in the actual plane. Here is he link to the entire interview I did with Rich. I hope you like it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeBu6mRDaro&feature=c4-overview&list=UUYYT43aHuHaVcdbuJ4YYCjw
