Last year, UPS made Carson a driver for a day. This year, his mom wished for more kids to have the same experience and share in the joy of a wish delivered. So we gathered three new kids to take on the challenge of becoming UPS's littlest (and most adorable) drivers. Share your wish at http://www.ups.com/wishes. #WishesDelivered

While an individual person may not save much by only making right turns, a huge corporation like UPS has proven since 2004 how avoiding left turns in its trucks can significantly increase its bottomline while reducing emissions and accidents. With nearly 100,000 trucks and hundreds of aircraft, UPS averages 15.8 million packages delivered daily worldwide. While an individual person may not save much by only making right turns, since UPS implemented a right turn policy in 2004, they have significantly increased profits while reducing emissions and accidents. UPS estimates the right-turn-heavy policy, combined with its routing software, shortens routes by 20.4 million miles and saves 10 million gallons of gas while delivering an additional 350,000 packages and reducing CO2 emissions by about 20,000 metric tons each year. UPS engineers noticed how waiting to turn left caused trucks to fall behind on their schedules, consume more gas, and increase the probability of accidents. Their software maps routes with only right-hand turns unless it's quicker or easier to proceed with a left-hand turn. A driver estimates they do about 90% right-hand turns. The television show Mythbusters tested the policy with one route using 8 left and 4 right turns, and another route using 1 left and 23 right turns. The UPS-like route was just over 1 mile and 9 minutes longer, but it reduced gas consumption from 6.8 to 4 pounds. UPS' software probably would've added one or two more left-hand turns to be more efficient on time while still saving gas.

UPS earlier today announced that its fleet of alternative fuel delivery vehicles has now driven more than 200 million miles since 2000. The alternative fuel fleet (AFV) now numbers more than 1,900 and another 62 vehicles have just been ordered. Doing the math, including the earth's circumference at the equator, the total mileage accumulated by UPS's "green fleet" is the equivalent to circling the Earth more than 8,000 times. In addition, while it took 11 years to do it the first time, it should only take another 6-years to do it again.

The term "flying car" is often used to include roadable aircraft and hovercars. Many prototypes have been built since the first years of the twentieth century, but no flying car has yet reached production and sales status. Actually it’s pretty hard to make a vehicle that will perfectly work both on roads and in air without compromising comfort, performance, safety, versatility, ease of use and, most important, cost. However, some companies like Terrafugia have already lunched some prototypes (( Transition + TF-X )) so here are 06 Most EXTREME Flying Cars that actually fly: #01. Aeromobil 3.0 #02. PAL-V One #03. Support My Channel By Shopping on Amazon! http://amzn.to/2atadUZ SUBSCRIBE https://goo.gl/OXghgH https://www.facebook.com/deejay.gabriel.7 Amazon's chief executive has revealed that the company is testing a new service involving delivery by mini-drones to get packages to customers in just 30 minutes. Jeff Bezos appeared on CBS television's 60 Minutes programme in the US where he played a video from their website showing tiny robotic devices, called 'octocopters', picking up items in small yellow buckets and whizzing them through the air. "I know this looks like science fiction. It's not," Mr Bezos said. "We can do half-hour delivery ... and we can carry objects, we think, up to five pounds which covers 86% of the items that we deliver." The mini-drones are powered by electric motors and could cover areas within a 10-mile radius of fulfillment centres, thus covering a significant portion of the population in urban areas in the US. The retail giant's ambitious project still requires additional safety testing and federal approval but Mr Bezos estimated that Amazon 'Prime Air', as it would be called, would be up and running in four to five years. They operate autonomously and drop the items at the target locations thanks to GPS coordinates transmitted to them. "It's very green, it's better than driving trucks around," said Mr Bezos. Amazon said the octocopters would be "ready to enter commercial operations as soon as the necessary regulations are in place," noting that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was actively working on rules for unmanned aerial vehicles. It projected a more optimistic timeline than Mr Bezos himself for the project to be activated, saying the FAA's rules could be in place as early as 2015 and that Amazon Prime Air would be ready at that time. Mr Bezos hinted that part of the motivation behind the mini-drones was to make sure Amazon remains on the cutting edge of the retail industry. "Companies have short life spans ... And Amazon will be disrupted one day," he said. "I would love for it to be after I'm dead." It is not known if there are plans for the service to be launched outside of the US.

This is my invention, the FlytCycle. It's a fully functional hover bike that was constructed in just 3 weeks. So far we've flown it hundreds of times and it's a ton of fun to fly around! We thought you'd enjoy seeing it in action! It's a VTOL personal flying aircraft that's essentially a manned drone. Of course it's a bit more complicated than that but operates on the same basic principles. You can see pictures and learn more about it on our website: www.FlytAero.com

The tubes can detect the types of vehicles using the road by measuring the weight that goes over the tubes and the distance between each wheel that rolls over it. Num Lock - Alright, this key has a simple purpose and a majority of you may know what it's for, but probably not know why it's there. When Num Lock is on, your keypad on the right of your keyboard will work like a normal phone dialler, with numbers 0-9 working as normal. The projected things on an aircraft wing - These are called flap track fairings. There are a number of different names for these pods that stick out, including anti-shock bodies or withcomb bodies. These are actually only the covers of the whole mechanism underneath that control the flaps at the back of the wing and they are shaped in this particular way for aerodynamic reasons. Wires extending off airplanes - These are called static dischargers and usually stick out of the trailing edges of aircraft, including the back of wings and tails of airplanes. What they do is prevent the build-up of electric charges around the radio antennas. If these wires weren't there the antennas of the radios would be the most pointy thing sticking out of the plane and since electrons have a tendency to build up where pointy things stick out, charge would build up around radio antennas. Rings on headphone jacks - Each of these are non-conductive insulating rings which basically insulate one section from the next in order to represent which what components get power. Typically, One ring means there are two sections, so the plug is mono and plays the same sound to both stereo headphones and regular stereo headphones will tend to have 2 rings, creating 3 sections, with two of them providing the connection to the left and right speakers. The 'fin' on the roof of cars - These are just cases hiding GPS antennas. Sometimes they're added for aesthetics, but the fin also somewhat helps with aerodynamics. 2 flush buttons - These are dual flush buttons and the toilet experts amongst you are probably just about to comment about how 'everyone should know this one'. But, it's worth explaining just so the few of you who don't know about it... now do, because its features like these that can make a real difference. This is how simple it is - the two buttons flush different amounts of water, so prevent wastage. Tic Tac lids - There's a reason for this tic-tac sort of bed on the inside of the lid. To add ease to retrieving a single mint. Saving you from recklessly shaking out your mints, this ingenious reliefed area allows you to reveal your mints in style by placing the box upside down and opening the lid as you tilt the rest of the box back down. The ball or disk above the rotor on helicopters - This is a Fire Control Radar and is seen on numerous attack helicopters such as the apache. Essentially, it is designed to provide information such as elevation and range to a fire-control system in order to calculate a fire solution. In other words, it detects information on how to direct weapons such that they hit a desired target.

Domino's has tested out a prototype for a flying drone that can deliver pizzas. The device carried two large pepperoni pizzas and conducted a flight. How do you get your pizza delivered? Last month, Domino's pizza teamed up with a creative agency titled T + Biscuits to test out a prototype for a flying drone that can deliver cheese pies. Described as an octacopter, the device carried two large pepperoni pizzas and conducted a flight over a city near London. The pizzas, both contained in an insulated bag, were secured to the drone. They were delivered in perfect condition and it only took about 10 minutes to venture 4 miles. The founder of T + Biscuits stated "If anything it went quicker than a pizza boy. We were amazed at how easy it was going to be." The drone is being called the DomiCopter. Although the device won't take the place of human delivery drivers anytime soon, Domino's is reportedly experimenting with the drone at their UK headquarters. Federal Aviation Administration authorities estimate that private drones will make up a $90 billion industry within 10 years.

New Videos Every Day - Subscribe: https://goo.gl/2nkv2Z Mercedes-Benz Vito with integrated landing platform for Matternet drones With integrated precision landing technology on their roofs, prototype Mercedes-Benz Vito vans turn into connected, safe landing platforms for Matternet drone deliveries. The goal of the project is to significantly improve the time and service level associated with on-demand delivery, and consequently create added value for retailers and consumers. The operation has been authorized by the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) following the Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) methodology developed by JARUS (Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems) and was approved by all relevant Swiss air and ground authorities. Safety is the guiding principle during the pilot, which will run for seven hours per day, five days a week in favourable weather conditions only. Matternet drones are integrated in the Swiss airspace system using the same sense and avoid system used by helicopter operators and other users of the lower part of the airspace; and are equipped with a parachute system that is automatically deployed in case of a malfunction. Vans & Drones first presented in 2016 – siroop first pilot customer to test innovative logistics technology The Vans & Drones project was presented by Mercedes-Benz Vans and Matternet at the 'Van Innovation Campus' event in September 2016. The pilot project in Zurich, with siroop as the first system user, is the next step in the advancement of the concept. The shipment is not delivered to the consumer by drone, but rather to the delivery van, which handles delivery for the final segment of the last mile. The use of Mercedes-Benz Vito vans as intelligent, mobile landing stations for Matternet drones is suiting for a variety of use cases and offers several advantages, including: //Reduced overall delivery cycle and cost compared to existing courier service operations. Packages are delivered faster, irrespective of traffic in urban areas. //Integration of drone systems into the logistics chain, with no change in customer behavior. Customers will still receive their packages from a van driver in the exact same way they receive it today. //Gives retailers and logistics companies the ability to provide customers a true on-demand delivery solution, without the need for additional infrastructure. And, it allows companies with van fleets to further leverage them and add on-demand services. //Allows drones to land on the roof of a Vito van, approximately two meters above ground, ensuring the safety for passers-by. The Matternet M2 drones used in the pilot can carry packages of up to two kilograms over distances of up to 20 kilometres. In recent months, the integrated system has been continuously refined and tested extensively in preparation for operation in an urban environment. "The pilot project in collaboration with Matternet and siroop affords us the possibility to test our concept in real-life on-demand deliveries. We want to gain valuable insights for this and further concepts enabled through van and drone technology. We have the great opportunity here to conduct the most extensive testing in an urban environment to date. Validating our concept together with customers and project partners in an early phase will greatly advance the development. We are demonstrating what a practical system comprising drones and vans may look like", says Stefan Maurer, Head of Future Transportation at Mercedes-Benz Vans. "We believe that drone-enabled logistics networks will transform how we access goods every day — we will be able to order something online, and like magic, receive it within minutes, for a fraction of the cost and energy expended today. Switzerland is at the forefront of this technological revolution — this is the first time that a drone delivery network is operating in a major European city and the first time a van and drone network is operating anywhere in the world. We hope that this pilot will give us greater understanding of how the public perceives a drone-enabled solution for e-commerce today and pave the way toward extensive use of these systems", says Andreas Raptopoulos, Founder and CEO of Matternet. CHILDREN’S ISLAND, MASSACHUSETTS — Package delivery company UPS partnered with drone-maker CyPhy Works to conduct a test delivery using a drone last Thursday. The drone used in the test delivery was CyPhy Works’ Persistent Aerial Reconnaissance and Communications system (PARC). It flew three miles over the Atlantic Ocean from Beverly, Massachusetts to Children’s Island, where it successfully delivered an asthma inhaler to a child at the camp. The PARC drone is battery-powered and equipped with night vision. It also features secure communications system, preventing information from being intercepted or disrupted. “Drone technology used in this way can save lives and deliver products and services to places that are difficult to reach by traditional transit infrastructures, ” Helen Greiner, the founder and chief technology officer of CyPhy Works said in a press release. Greiner told NBC49.com that the drones are not going to replace delivery trucks. The United States Federal Aviation Administration’s rules for commercial use of drones officially took effect last month, which include a number of restrictions on commercial drone operations. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
