1996 Atlanta Olympics Ad Breaks - Vol. 2
From NBC's coverage of the opening ceremonies on July 19, 1996. Break 1: * MCI Friends and Family Free (With a barnstorming Whoopi Goldberg) * UPS (It's a small world, unless you work for UPS) * Sea World/Busch Gardens (Official Olympic sponsor?) * IBM ThinkPad (Australians get the subtitle treatment) * NBC Olympics sponsor tag: IBM (They created the official website!), John Hancock, Reebok and BMW. Break 2: * NBC promo for "Dark Skies" (Sort of like "The X-Files," but set in the 1960s. Not that you can tell from this ad.) * Blue Bell Ice Cream (1-minute spot features a different version of the "Have Yourself a Blue Bell Country Day" jingle.) * Texaco (Official fuel supplier!) * Southwestern Bell (Is it creepy or a show of support when the entire town tracks your morning run?) * NBC "coverage continues" intro Break 3: * McDonald's * Delta Air Lines - Nigel Havers (of the movie "Chariots of Fire") plans a "marathon" trip of 34,000 miles through 5 countries on 3 continents in 17 days to show how awesome Delta is. But that hurried packing seems more indicative of him running from the law or a hit man! * Tylenol (Official pain reliever of the millions who have no chance of ever going pro or making the Olympics!) * McDonald's "When the U.S. Wins, You Win" game

1996 Atlanta Olympics Ad Breaks - Vol. 1
From NBC's coverage of the opening ceremonies on July 19, 1996. Break 1: * NBC Olympics sponsor tag: Lee jeans, Visa, Rold Gold pretzels (really?), and Kodak * Coca-Cola (Gorgeous 1-minute Indian spot, created for the 1996 Cricket World Cup and directed by Tarsem, featuring scenes of kids playing cricket in which red is highlighted as the colour of passion. Cricket has not been an Olympic sport since the 1900 Games. Watch the Indian version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIoA-e4iXx8 ) * Kodak Advantix (Advanced Photo System) * BMW's new 5 series (Watch out for hydroplaning!) * NBC Olympics sponsor tag: Coca-Cola Break 2: * NBC Must-See TV Tuesday ("Mad About You" and "Caroline in the City" are hooking up with "Frasier" this fall!) * UPS (Talking about how it identifies and supports potential Olympians among its athletes) * Confide home HIV test (The thought of this being marketed like a pregnancy test makes me uneasy.) * Jack in the Box (Demand for 99-cent Jumbo Jacks has Jack re-enlisting a retiree. "I love the smell of mayo in the morning!") Break 3: * "Coverage will continue after local news break" message * NBC - "The Jeff Foxworthy Show" (With a very young Haley Joel Osment - but Mom got recast! The show was on ABC for one season and got canceled, then moved to NBC ... and got canceled AGAIN. Can't say they didn't promote it, though.) * AT&T (A woman dives off a freakin' waterfall while some creepy tribal "Georgia" song plays.) I've posted the local news break that followed these ads here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaWI5T7_i4I

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Commercial
Mario Blasts Off for another Out-of-This-World Adventure In 2007, Super Mario Galaxy took the world of video games by storm. Now this first true Mario sequel in years re-energizes the franchise with new levels and new power-ups. Plus this time Mario gets to team up with his dinosaur buddy Yoshi, who adds new possibilities to the gravity-defying game play. Its everything you love about the first game and more. * Mario collects stars as he travels from galaxy to galaxy. Every level is new, but the game retains the charm, sense of wonder and beauty in line with Marios history. Mario works his way through the various levels, sometimes upside-down, sometimes floating from place to place. * On some stages, Mario can find an egg, smash it open and hop onto the back of Yoshi. Yoshi can use his tongue to grab items and shoot them back at enemies, or to snag attach points and swing across chasms. * Yoshi has an interesting diet. When he eats a Dash Pepper, he gets so hot and frenzied he can run up steep inclines and vertical walls. When he eats a Blimp Fruit, he inflates like a balloon and floats to new heights. * New power-ups include a drill that Mario uses to tunnel through the planets surface all the way to the other side of a planet. * Skilled players will want to collect new Comet Metals, which will unlock harder levels with even more challenges.

Yes to Competition & Air Safety - http://www.brownbailout.com
UPS lobbyists have buried a short 230-word legislative bailout deep inside the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2009 currently before Congress. It's worth billions to "Big Brown" at the expense of today's American economy that thrives on next-day commerce, competitive shipping options and ready access to markets around the world. Read more here: http://www.brownbailout.com/buried-bailout/ What's in a bailout? The bailout bottom-line is this: What's the difference between a 100-year-old trucking company and a modern airline that flies packages around the world every night? Answer: everything. Yes, both carry parcels and packages, but how they do it is obviously and vastly different. UPS' bailout would shoehorn FedEx Express -- an airline created in 1971 focused on next-day delivery of essential goods and documents around the world -- into the same operating rules as a 100-year-old trucking company. FedEx Express and other airlines operate just fine under airline regulations, but UPS doesn't like competition. Keep in mind, UPS chose to form as a separate trucking company for its pickup and delivery operations. So "Big Brown" is throwing around its political weight and seeking a bailout from Congress, so that it can saddle its only remaining U.S. competitor with the effects of its own decisions. And at the end of the day, all of us who rely on overnight-deliveries -- medicines, paychecks, critical replacement parts, essential inventory, and the like -- pay the cost.

Vegemite (Australian ad) 1993
Vegemite commercial from 1993 transferred from Betamax tape. I wonder if those home movies were actually made on 8mm silent colour films way back in the 50s or 60s or was it made in the early 90s with a lot of post production pseudo film effects? I dare say likely post production work as the lines in the film look very fake.
