Jack Levis: The hardest step in innovation? Looking foolish in front of the crowd

Why is Your Parcel Delayed - and How to Avoid It

03:48
NZ Customs shows how parcels arrive into NZ and what happens at the border control. ↓↓↓ READ MORE ↓↓↓ He explains reasons parcels are 'held for clearance' and tells customers what you can do to help speed up the clearance process. If you would like to learn more then read here: http://easyfreight.co.nz/blog International postal regulations require that every item passing an international border is subject to border inspection in the destination country. Postal items coming into New Zealand are inspected by the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) or the Ministry for Primary Industries for a number of reasons. These include but are not limited to inspecting the item to identify: - Customs Charges, Duty, and Taxes - Prohibited and restricted items - Bio-security risks and risks to New Zealand’s environment If you're importing goods into New Zealand, it's important that you're aware your goods may attract charges or be delayed by a border inspection. If your item is stopped for a border inspection, it won't affect the target delivery period of 1-3 working days once your item has been released by Customs. If your item is 'held for clearance', your item may require further inspection by another Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) branch, or for you to pay Customs charges before it is released for delivery. If your parcel is stopped by New Zealand Customs for the payment of duties or GST, New Zealand Post will send you a letter with the details of the payment required once it has been processed by Customs. Postal items leaving New Zealand valued at over NZD$1000 must have an export entry issued by Customs. For more information about export entries, see the Customs website. If your parcel does not have an export entry, New Zealand Post will hold your item and contact you to arrange it. To avoid delay, you should arrange the export entry before you post your item. You can either arrange this via your own customs broker (if you have one). There is an administration charge for this service. It is also possible that your parcel may be delayed by the customs service in the destination country. If this happens, generally the postal organisation in the destination country will contact the person you have addressed the parcel to, and arrange for them to pay the duties and taxes. You will not necessarily be informed of the delay, although if you have used a tracked service, the tracking may indicate "Held for clearance." If your item is detained by a customs authority in another country, please be aware that New Zealand Post is not able to 'speed up' the clearance process on your behalf. As the sender of the parcel, you may be able to speak directly with the customs service in the destination country to expedite the process, or you can contact the postal organisation in the destination country. Spatial Logistics: : Jesse LeCavalier

12:55
The Five Thousand Pound Life: Land Session Three: Spatial Logistics Jesse LeCavalier Recorded September 26, 2014 The Five Thousand Pound Life: Land was a symposium on rethinking land and its value in light of climate change organized by The Architectural League and co-sponsored by The Cooper Union Institute for Sustainable Design in September 2014. The Spatial Logistics panel invited an industrial real estate developer and two designers and academics to unpack the spatial dimensions of the sometimes hidden networks of logistics and debate their consequences — the good, bad, and unknown — for design and society. In this presentation, Jesse LeCavalier traces the spaces and invisible networks that circulate goods, people, and resources created by logistics. He dissects a recent advertising campaign by United Parcel Service (UPS) — “Logistics makes the world work better” — to understand how supply chain logistics “tries to deny space” and collapse distance (and therefore time) in pursuit of improved efficiency, lower costs, and increased profits. Drawing from his extensive research into the architecture and logistics of Walmart, he tours the sequence of trucking, unloading, sorting, distribution, floor display, and purchasing that determines our consumption of goods. He concludes with a revision to the UPS advertising slogan: “Logistics makes the world.” Jesse LeCavalier is working on a book about the architecture and logistics of Walmart, forthcoming from the University of Minnesota Press. He is a member of Co + LeCavalier and an assistant professor of architecture at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he coordinates the first year design studio. The Five Thousand Pound Life (5KL) is an initiative of The Architectural League on new ways of thinking, talking, and acting on architecture, climate change, and our economic future.
