How UPS Airlines Works

94 ratings | 60735 views
No matter how far you are from your nearest neighbor, if you live in the United States or Europe, UPS can deliver to your address. UPS can deliver to 80 percent of the planet within 48 hours, so if you live somewhere else, it's still pretty likely that UPS can find you to drop off or pick up packages. That's a lot of addresses -- and a lot of packages. In fact, in 2005, UPS delivered 3.75 billion packages and letters. That's more than one package for every two people in the entire world.

10,000 packages per aircraft flight? Just doesn't seem like enough to justify the costs. $30M+ plane, $200K+ Pilot salary, plus the fuel.

Yeah the 10k is completely wrong the real number ranges from 50k on a 757 then the 767 and a300 usually do 75k and the 747 and md11 over 100k easily but more cargo stuff too

They are way off with that, 10,000 packages are about 3 trailers full, the planes carry easily double that depending on size of packages.

I have to say that as a business user, we've liked FedEx better than UPS for three major reasons. 1. FedEx was drastically less expensive than UPS. 2. We've have a high volume of package damages with UPS. I've even seen them throw/drop packages at our door. So far only one damaged package from FedEx. 3. FedEx is more lenient on weight/dimensional discrepancies. I will say that FedEx is annoying when it comes to supply ordering.

it's very nice

@MegaSam8888 Not saying it's impossible but from all my experience the quality control is lacking. It's just a fact that the less times your package meets somebodies hands the more likely it is to arrive without issue. It's hard to make a 4 hour part time minimum wager give a damn, IMO. From the driver perspective, I'd say UPS is a much better culture with it's union and benefits, if you ever get to become a driver...

I switched over from UPS to Fed Ex a couple years ago. Having a lot better time with Fed Ex in general. They use machines in their sorting facilities instead of minimum wage package handlers, barely have any damages on my fed ex stuff as compared to the UPS shipments.

FedEx has Starting working Sundays to make service better. oh and by the way i have 3 managers that worked for UPS and they say FedEx is better in so many ways.. and one last thing, FedEx started the whole barcode thing, UPS copied...do some research man.

@kissmyfeetnab Yeah, it's call "belly freight"....all riding in the belly of other airlines like: United, Deta, Southwest, Continental....you name, they use it.

UPS Boeing 777 FTW!
sweetjoel24 (8 years ago)
@jaguar1410 UPS has been around for over 100 years and FedEx has only been around 20 years, and it's half the size of UPS already... With this new branch that started (FedEx Smartpost) FedEx will take a lot of packages from UPS.....
diapermanful (8 years ago)
@piemonster32 Lol!!! R U serious??? What do you think happens if a plane crashes full of packages???
DroneCaptain McSkidds (8 years ago)

so are you saying brown is bad or good? not sure what u mean. UPS is the largest carrier worldwide, air and ground... UPS delivers FedEx packages for them! I see DHL and USPS packages on a UPS conveyor belt every night as well!
thefsxflyer (9 years ago)
I think its based on dollars/mile IDK? Or so much per flight based on distance and time

And copying FedEx for 27 years ~ as they did NOT start flying till 1982. BOTTOM LINE - Since 1971- FedEx is the world's largest airline in terms of aircraft and in terms of freight tons flown. They deliver packages and freight to more than 375 destinations in over 220 countries each day. FedEx operates the world's largest air fleet with 672 aircraft. Brown emulates FedEx in the Air. FedEx emulates Brown on the Ground . Soon with the economy - we may see Φ FedUps Φ

I'm tempted to say that this 'whole system' and idea was copied. I believe ~FedEx~ designed this ingenious concept.! uh- NOT ups.
