ups did not leave it at our door it's left by the office/ mailboxes!!! hopefully it dont get stolen but if someone wanna steal or they did it! satan ? satan did it? they did it though really. if they want to steal our snacks and deodorant then that's fine $7.90 worth of stuff! There's another box coming so who knows if they'll leave it out there again. We ought not have ordered it till we could get the stuff sooner if it was left out there.

Lol as a "package handler" at ups, the job title should be changed to "package thrower" cuz that's what I do when I get pissed off when the belt gets clogged up with 20 different packages I just throw them bitches off the belt, other than that though I treat those packages real good
speedtime (2 months ago)

Also our drivers start at 18.50 and their top rate is about 34, I forget how many years it takes for them to make top rate, but I also know their pension is shit now. Anyhow, don't take it for granted. UPS has been cutting back, pay, hours, benefits, etc for 10 years now and they're not done cutting back. Don't assume you're going to still have your benefits 30 years from now. When I started we got our benefits after a few weeks, maybe 2 months, and when you account for inflation we made more per hour starting out. Now you make less when accounting for inflation, your benefits aren't as nice, your pension is far worse, you have to wait a year to get your health benefits, 2 years for your family, you are required to do more work in less time, etc. UPS is changing for the worse and it's not fulfilling. You're never going to get rich their nor are you going to do anything meaningful there. I mean if you enjoy the work, hey than that's enough, but if you don't, there's better things out there. Get an education, and get out there.
Aten Akehnaton (3 days ago)
How do you "work" your way to a better position? The harder you work the more work you get. It's not like your position gets easier because you work harder. You're not going to get to work in smalls because you can load 5 package cars in 3.5 hours. And yes they make about 60 to 120 bucks a week when starting, they get about 3 to 3.5 hours a day, rarely do they get their 3 and a half, often they get sent home early and the supervisors do their work. At work at the Newport News building in VA. Starting out at 10.50 to 11 an hour and getting roughly 3 hours a day, that gets taxed, then you have to pay union dues on top of that, you're not going to take much home. I've seen their check. I've been their 13 years, I make about 19.60 and get about 4 hours a day, my take homes after taxes and union dues is about 300 a week, but that took 13 years. Like I said before everything is based on seniority, unless you go into management then that is a buddy fuck system, not merit based either. So you're wrong, working hard doesn't get you a better position.
emello81 (4 days ago)
You work your way to a better position. And I don't know where you work but I'm a Package Handler and make around 180 a week. 60 to 120 that sounds like a 15 year old in High School Mcdonalds money. Once you become a Driver you'll be making top dollars, around 24.50 an hour and after the 3 year mark you'll be making over 30. Patience is key. And hard work. But unlike dead end fast food and retail joints, that hard work with UPS is worth it.
Aten Akehnaton (4 days ago)
60 to 120 bucks a week shouldn't be enough to buy hard work.

Prince Echo Lol I just started there 2 weeks ago bruh I didn't even get a full training day and now they got me loading a trailer plus 2 trucks gotta scan specific packages and load them in the trailer and make sure I don't mis place any packages. Just this past Friday someone called off and we got fucked real good that day and I had 15 misloads apparently that morning , I don't care though honestly. I'm doing the best that I can going through hundreds and hundreds of packages everyday, if they don't like it they can kiss my ass. And I heard they don't even pay for school, I'm in college and they never told me that they did pay for it. Anyways, it's a job and they gave me the job pretty quickly for that I'm thankful that I can keep going to school and pay all my bills and best of all no drug testing lol !
Prince Echo (2 months ago)
I hated Ups when I was in there. I was still new and they had me doing everything. They had me unloading the trucks, doing the small sorts, sorting out the big packages and they also had me load the trucks. It was hell. And they didn't even care that I was in college at the time. I got off way too late and started school the next morning very early.

Worst Human resource department is located at the Charlotte, NC hub. Extremely rude ladies work there and act like we are nothing but idiots trying to obtain a job. I've applied for a position(s) in the area for over a year since leaving last season as seasonal help. I have a positive rehire status too (I hope so since I pushed almost 100 boxes an hour doing residential).

McDonald's workers get paid more than ups part time worker that's some bs. They say that ups have the best Union but in reality they don't really care about the workers taking everyone's hard earn money use it their own personal expenses. If you need health insurance ups is the job to work for I think it's tell to move to Fedx they pay more

UPS is the worst delivery company out there, they don't give a shit about your packages. I got a ups slip saying that they would attempt delivery yesterday and lo and behold they did not deliver! I waited all day for this asshole! then they said that the package is at a drop point I went there and the package is not there! UPS SUCKS!!!!
pjdy09 (2 years ago)
I like how everyone hates working for ups. Being a driver sucks sometimes, but I'll be making close to $35 an hour in 4 years. I'll take that with job security, and benefits that some people can't afford.
emello81 (4 days ago)
You all have no idea what a suck ass job is. Try being a unloader at Walmart for 5 years like I was and then bitch. They work your ass like the biggest slaves in the universe. 9.50 a stinking hour, everything is manual, no electric belts, everythings pushed with boxes constantly falling everywhere. Huge 3000 piece trucks, sometimes 2 or 3. The pallets when fully loaded need to get pulled to departments "Manually" and they can weigh up to 5000 lbs. The loading dock is tiny as fuck. No space anywhere, constantly banging into shit, boxes falling everywhere, bailers blocked and needs to be changed so there's a giant stack of boxes outside, the cart pushers call out then you gotta push carts, sometimes you get no break. And then you've got these managers just standing there like a bunch of fat bald headed bullies watching you and bitching that it's not done in like 2-3 hours. You all have no idea what a shit ass job is until you've been through the shit I went through at that hell hole. Nothing is advanced, it's just a giant toll of labor on your body for such low pay and really not many opportunities for advancement.
Elliot Howell (8 months ago)
If you want to get, I guess, a taste of what it is like to be out on the road, look into being a driver helper this peak season. If you're lucky enough to be put with a good driver it's really good experience and really good OT pay. Last year I was given the chance to be shuttled to the California bay area to work at the Sunnyvale hub, made a pretty decent paycheck for a month and had my ass kicked right back into shape. Slave labor bro, but so fucking worth it. Though helper wages vary from region to region. Where I was, I was making 14.25/h and 21.50 in OT. Most of my paychecks were OT as helping is part time. Good luck dude!

As an exceptions clerk for 8 years I've realized how stupid some customers are. I've had people yell at me because their package didn't arrive early but just on time. I've also noticed that more than 90% of the time that packages are late, it's due to the consignee or shipper entering an incorrect address or forgetting an apartment # or having a rottweiler running loose in front of the house. Most customers are entitled pricks. (With that said some people have been very polite and understanding and they are most appreciated).

A lot of people talk trash about UPS but I have submitted 2 applications for Package handler and never gotten called back. What gives?
Rick James (1 year ago)
+Jorge Castillo Sorry, just saw this.   You don't give your age but overall it's a place for young people to start.  A CDL isn't  necessary to drive delivery vehicles or package cars as they call them but it would help you to either transition to feeders(tractor and trailer) or even possibly starting out on them if you don't mind doing the all night driving thing plus you would need to live in an area that has a hub.  Most of the delivery centers will only have a small number of feeder drivers to take out the days pickups and bring back the packages for the days deliveries.  As a rule though at UPS you start out part-time and wait sometimes for several years for a full-time job to open up.  It's hard work and long hours and not that fun for the most part.  It sucks really which is why you see so many rants.  The trade off is decent money and pension.  The pensions though not as good as they once were are still quite generous compared to most jobs have no pension.  Most pensions allow retirement at about 57 now I think.  It varies depending on which union local you are on.  Wages can be looked up online.  The whole  Teamsters/UPS contract is online actually.  My opinion, I hated most every day of my life but I retired at 47 years old so in the end I suppose it worth it but now I have pretty severe back problems and several surgeries from it so I would say my experience is about normal there.  If you have any more questions though I would be glad to give you honest answers.  You could probably do electrical work while you waited on a full time job  I suppose.  The part-time jobs don't pay very well now plus I think there's a wait, possible a year for benefits to kick in.  I've been out since 08 so someone else may  have better info on that.  If you like electrical work though and are certified and all my guess is that you'll be much happier doing that but it's your decision in the end.  Good luck
jocast 2131 (1 year ago)
+Rick James hey man im looking into trying to be a ups driver. im currently a electrician. i am considering changing careers. i am just wondering if ups is a good place. seen ppl rant about being a bad company and all. i have my cdl permit amd soon goin to do the rest to obtain the cdl license .
callofdutyguy9 (2 years ago)
I'm only 19 and have been trying for about about a year and a half since I left high school to Get on. I have no problems having to wait and work hard just like the next person for a driving positon. And so you know, I live in Ventura county in southern California. I currently work for an appliance warehouse and have experience using forklifts, unloading trailers and parking class 6-7 trucks. I also want to get my CDL and learn as much as I can right now so my chances of being rehired are better. I'm also amember on browncafe, my username is specter208. Thanks for your advice!
Rick James (2 years ago)
+callofdutyguy9 It's a tough place to get on and then if you are planning on waiting until you can drive it can be many years in some some situations. As I said I'm retired but I do know that lots of the pension plans are strapped for money and are making changes like increasing the age for retirement. This effects you because if guys can't retire then there are less openings. If there is someone there you know and trust you should find out about how many part-time people would be ahead of you and roughly how many will retire in the next 10 years or so and a driver there should be able to give you a rough idea if you got on part-time how long it would take you to get to driving. There's no way to be exact but you should be able to get a rough idea to decide if it's worth it to wait around. Your current age and whether you are already married plays into it as well. I don't know where you are but if you really want to work there you could go to a hub and probably start immediately there but that has problems as well. If you could get a CDL while you're waiting it might come in handy as well. You don't need it to work there but once hired it might help you get a feeder job out of a hub or lots of different options, one being a sup. which could short cut your time to get to the better money. Good luck to you, if you ever have any questions I'd be glad to help if I can. There's a website called browncafe.com that may be of some help to you. Some of the guys there are pricks so if you run into one of them don't pay any attention. If you contact me again let me know what general area you are in. I still know a few people but it's unlikely I would know someone where you are.
callofdutyguy9 (2 years ago)
+Rick James I got hired as a helped in early November 2014 as a helper and worked up to Jan, 15. I worked with 4 drivers and 2 of them told me that they spoke with the hiring manager. I myself spoke with my helper coordinator and he told me I was on a list of people to be called back. I call my center once or twice a month and check the career website everyday. I'm still waiting but I can't wait to go back.

Aten Akehnaton (3 days ago)
The amount of work you do should equal to your pay. At UPS it doesn't. People always say they know some guy who works there and makes over 100K a year with no education in less than 2 years. I've been there 13 years and I haven't ever met anyone like that, in fact I only know of about 3 people who make that kind of money and they've been there a very long time.
emello81 (4 days ago)
Your probably a lazy ass, that's why you don't work for them. Stick with your office job.
