Apsara means angel in hindi

Let me get this straight... They a care package that is biodegradable so they don't have to retrieve it... only to waste fancy gadgets that's reusable and not biodegradable to just guide to package to its destination. Do they need hoverboards to walk a few feet?

Everybody in this comment section is so critical of this

Oh just use a parachute...

So it’s essentially Mr. Meeseeks?
Franco Benitez (1 month ago)
Tbh I think this drone might be very inefficient. Parachute drops can carry more supplies and doesn’t require electronics like these.
Edac Enarc (1 month ago)
What do you mean you just fly it back up you don’t have to go Retrieve it
Cate (1 month ago)
This drone is designed to save lives then *take its own*

Just put a parachute on a box

how can the drone deliver or they are just dropped by using a helicopter an the drone was dropped

Dumb.
Atlas WalkedAway (2 months ago)
Sooooo, a really inefficient and costly parachute?
Atlas WalkedAway (2 months ago)
Omg, you're putting gps capable electronics and batteries in it? And possibly dropping them en masse into hostile territory? Brilliant.
Hunter Hoegemeyer (2 months ago)
If you have a helicopter to drop the drone over your target destination, just land the helicopter at the destination.
panggwin (2 months ago)
What's wrong with parachute boxes again? They don't have to be super precise, I mean what, are we landing them on the roofs of houses during floods? Even then, a brightly colored parachute box that floats would get the job done being cheaper+can hold more.
Wyatt Dudgeon (2 months ago)
Not addressed? What about Zipline ( http://www.flyzipline.com )? I feel like this is an expensive unreusable "sustainable" solution.
ThE RaGiNg GaM3R (2 months ago)
Next thing u know these cardboard things will have “2 lbs” of C4 strapped to em precisely going to there target, oh wait that exists....
FSGT Terre (2 months ago)
I love this
BMW M3 (2 months ago)
I hate my engineering school even more now. I proposed this idea a year ago but with a powered plane to drop emergency supplies for my senior project and my professors told me it isn’t a good idea or a good product.

Medbots in real life?
Peter Peterson (2 months ago)
DURPA at it again. Taking something simple and complicating it. If they really wanted to they could find a far better way to air drop more supply. like a larger over wing glider. of if they want something that touches down softer just need to look at mimicking maple tree "helicopter" seeds. the glider plans could be better suited to the RC industry to make cheap bodies and reuse the electronics and be used for fpv. and for the front line fighters a cheaper alternative for a recon drone.

gimmie55 (2 months ago)
non of the electronics are either cheap or biodegradable which defeats the whole purpose why not use a plastic one and then reuse it, it would save money and is much better for the environment as you're not wasting the electronics and dumping batteries into the environment
Martin Tørnby (2 months ago)
Why don't they make it eatable at the same time? You think I'm joking? That I am not.
nigel rosenberg (2 months ago)
They talk about disaster relief but darpa is a military research branch and has pretty much no interest in humanitarian aid
blakdrop (2 months ago)
This is a great idea in theory, but it doesn't make sense to emphasize the biodegradable materials of the drone body yet stuff it with non-biodegradable electronics. Especially in their example use case of deploying hundreds at a time, can you imagine hundreds or thousands of electronic components littered all over a disaster/refugee zone?
Jens Cocquyt (2 months ago)
a lipo and some rc electronics very biodegradable

1:42 - I see expensive and definitely not biodegradable telemetry module, GPS, pitot tube, battery, etc.
Lazurkri (2 months ago)
Hmmm. I can see a better usage;deniable weaponry. Put a few pounds of PETN or ANFO in this and fly into some Islamic fuckwit, and the evidence would go up in smoke!

i dont think most of you guys understand that in the video that THEY CAN GET WITHIN AT LEAST 50FT and that they are made to be deployed in large amounts. stop saying that crap about parachutes
Drone Soldier (2 months ago)
Or just use a parachute.
I-Afrika Okokuqala (2 months ago)
Exactly
topguy660 (2 months ago)
parachute easy solution
Zdgd Huhk (2 months ago)
The maximum payload is too small. Either use big cargo planes for bigger drops of supplies or use those octocopters for smaller drops. Does it really matter that It is bio-degradable? You are basically throwing away expensive drone equipment doing this.
PhilfreezeCH (2 months ago)
It disappears (as long as you don‘t count all electronic parts)

All the electronics aren't biodegradable and will do damage to the environment
Don't touch my pfp (2 months ago)
Biodegradable *puts in electronics that leak acids into the soil* Ok how did this even pass the testing phases?
Lord _ Scrubington (2 months ago)
I have literally NO faith in this project. It is utterly pointless as nothing requires the sort of precision for the objective this project is designed to achieve. Furthermore, it's cargo capacity is pathetic yet it is significantly larger and harder to store than a parachute mounted box due to it's shape.

notice none of the drones actually fly. A flying wing is very unstable. This is just a crap idea.

This drone saved some lives then dipped.
Axolatol s (2 months ago)
Huh. Just like the hunting horn mains in monster hunter world. Save the party then disappear after the hunt
Brandon Huang (2 months ago)
They should make the drone have wings that can retract instead of put together
Andregovski (3 months ago)
Cuz it's easier to use and way more viable than a normal Drone...
RSB daylightdemon (3 months ago)
Now might seem really neet but it would be kind of hard to fly with planes they should make cardboard helicopter or try to at least better handling it might also have longer distances and easier to spot
Yankee Gohome (3 months ago)
Stick with cardboard! Believe me the people will be happy to use the cardboard as fuel for cooking.

Biodegradable chutes...problem solved...
Spencer Radie (3 months ago)
I don’t see much practical application for this product tbh. Cool idea, but I feel as though it would only really be more efficient than other methods that exist in very specialized circumstances.

MonoType (3 months ago)
Nintendo would sell this for 100 dollars.
jesuslikedpie (3 months ago)
This is stupid. Why not just get a bunch of charge stations and give those to emergency workers. Then they can deliver the VACCINE with precision and not let chance or high winds push this flying pizza box off course. Come on! Think a little before you make videos like this.

Lmao food supplies that's a massive joke more like only sole purpose of this little planes is medical supplies

Raided Cluster Animations (3 months ago)
Yeah dropping Paper planes with valuable (kinda) electronic components for single use seems like a very good idea.... I think Diapers with a parachute would do much better!

You didn't describe how or if the electronics are degradable too

So it only uses those wing tips as vertical stabilizers? I feel like without sufficient speed those things could never glide and would just fall
