Why Just not use parachutes???Attach a parachute to a box With some medicine inside And then just drop a bunch

I kinda feel it need flares for this one...

this is just an RC plane without an engine, why not just invest $13 per unit and make it re-usable??
HQinternet (5 days ago)
seems more like these girls just want to get some $$$ for sh*t , make it one time use and call it bio-degradable.. just to be able to sell more of them xD what a waste of good cardboardpaper and hotglue.. lol xD aaawh the ingenuity! cardboard and hotglue!!! YEAAH

Oh cool, We'll help you so long as we dont have to actually touch you or talk to you.....hmmmm. And stop always showing Black folks when you show "needy" people, there are 100s of millions of other people in need in the world thank you.

How are the electronics going to decompose
Brandon Griggs (12 days ago)
Why bother shaping it into a drone if you’re just gonna drop it vertically...

What if theres a rain will it stop and get destroyed
actionman935 (16 days ago)
A traditional cargo container by parachute is the standard and practical way.
Andrew Mitchell (17 days ago)
Why not just chute supplies in? So much easier and less complicated
Oshevire Ejiro (17 days ago)
what about rain
Andrew Cook (18 days ago)
this would be great for military use as you can drop food, water and medical supplies to them in the middle of no where. these are really cool.
DrCognitive (18 days ago)
Donald Duck made an airplane out of bread. Worked great until it rained. Kind of the same problem this thing would have. Here's the flaw in the logic behind this thing. It's not the molded plastic of a drone that is so expensive. It's the electronics and power source. You know...the same ones you'll need to put into this. Sorry, but this is a stupid idea.
DAT KILO (18 days ago)

Anthony Damon (22 days ago)
Lol that can’t carry any thing with out being out of control. At least increase the wing size and length to generate more lift so It can do that.
Jon B Baca (23 days ago)
Cool that it's biodegradable, but people have been making the same things with dollar store foam board for decades. Check out Flite Test to see all the amazing designs you can make with nothing but hot glue and foam board

ok so your telling me "parachutes can hold more cargo", Then why instead of hand making 2000 "shroom material planes" and dropping them out of a cargo plane would you not just drop a "parachute" they even said could hold more?
*A: this is just an undercover drug deal that's why they would drop 2000 shroom planes and not one big "parachute" oh ya that's also why they are mad of a mushroom like material
*B: or America is planting small bombs in these and is dropping these over Isis then when the 7 year old kid gets his band aid the village gets obliterated.
Chris Contact (27 days ago)
Darpa: cheap, disposable and able to carry two pounds of plastic explosive. Drop between one and a couple thousand on a thirty foot circle. Green bombs that are biodegradable.

Alpha Bears (28 days ago)
I think the idea is neat however, if you really wanted to save lives, how about beginning by not having the government arm rebels whom fight the legitimate government and not overthrowing governments in which creates loop holes or put in place an even worst dictator. And instead of given food and bottled water, how about teaching those camps and the impoverished countries in sustainable farm practices and sustainable food production. As for water, how about teaching those countries how to save water and consume it only to drink. In a way, the west should start doing all of the above if they want to help and save lives. Something i do not see happening especially with DARPA whom specializes in killing rather than helping.
William Soots (29 days ago)
just a parachute would cost less and be useful to the receiver.

i like how quickly they skipped over the electronics. lol but still a cool idea
Fox Mulder (1 month ago)
don't worry, DARPA who seeded ya, will think of a way of using your toy mated to #gEVEELe algo for #DispositionMatrix #TerrorTuesdays to target some innocent couple's wedding using your drones to quietly glide in below the radar.

Alin Alexandru (1 month ago)
Why not deliver the supplies with helicopters? There's no need for these drones, helicopters already deliver supplies just fine and can also carry much more that the drones.
George Andrews (1 month ago)
A parachute and the cordage would be much more valuable to people trying to survive than a decomposing box.
Dropping drone guidance and control systems into areas of conflict would never have bad repercussions right???
Milosz Ostrow (1 month ago)
Nice, but it might make more sense to develop a disposable system that can be released much like a dumb bomb over a target, allowed to free-fall most of the way to minimize wind drift, then deploy a biodegradable parachute just in time to slow the package down for a safe landing.
Javier Hernandez (1 month ago)
What about a tiny parachute like always.
baikai seal (1 month ago)
But the electrons inside the drone is not boo degreadble tho
Trevor Van Zuydam (1 month ago)
not entirely degradable then is it? how about making the flight computer with a cheap android phone. the phone can then be used by the community/person after its served its purpose. hek throw in a solar flex panel for charging said phone.

But that box has a few hundred dollars worth of electronics in it, and onece the government gets involved they will be paying thousands on them, I have a family member in the air forces and because they contract everything they pay like 10 bucks for a bolt you can get at a local hardware store for 50 cents.
Leon Greeff (1 month ago)
Why not just use biodegradable parachutes?

If the goal is a low cost mean to deliver supplies in humanitarian/disaster situation. Why wouldn't they consider a cheap parachute? Also, why use the word "drone" when referring to a cardboard flying wing?

Unless the entire thing is super cheap and there's no electronics to be left behind it's pointless, you may as well use an actual drone that can carry more with precision.
