This Drone is Designed to Save Lives Then Disappear | WIRED
Wtf are you gonna do with 2 pounds bring 1 battery for your flashlight
Tristan Popken (16 hours ago)
I think losing the electrinics is more expansive than a parachute
Podi Ang (20 hours ago)
Ironic. He can save others, but not himself
GoDAshhh (1 day ago)
But can he drone save my life and make me disappear...🤔
Noe (1 day ago)
What if there is rain
Daniel Gordillo (1 day ago)
Does anyone have the templates for that drone ? 🙄
rorythemixmaster (1 day ago)
Nice concept, waste to put it on small scalle. 2lbs? You'd wanna ensure the product was delivered and picked up.
SpudLab (1 day ago)
Yeah, let's drop RC electronics, batteries and GPS guidance systems over politically unstable regions by the planeload, what could go wrong?
brazy birb (2 days ago)
uhh ever heard of a parachute guys?
Rodee1 (2 days ago)
Non biodegradable guts and a dinky payload. Not that impressive but certainly a step in the right direction.
343 Guilty Spark (2 days ago)
Hmmm i've seen that ship somewhere in a video game, and it was a bomber...
Muckers (2 days ago)
That's not a drone, that's a cardboard glider mate.
EnLaMatrix1 (3 days ago)
One Entrepreneur: Lets recycle cardboard and reduce its production so we can use that water and trees more efficiently
This Woman: Lets make more cardboard and drop it in places where they can't recycle it and already have a waste disposal problem
Gamesational (3 days ago)
If you can just add a motor, propeller, and rc controls, you can turn it into a RC airplane.
goosecouple (3 days ago)
Someone with DC connection is making money out of this project.
randomdoodification (4 days ago)
you'd think she'd wash her hair if she was going to be presenting, these kinda things are scheduled....
Bob Johnson (4 days ago)
At this rate why not just drop shitloads of care packages with parachutes, that’s probably be better than using all the equipment you load that cardboard drone with to make t capability of controlled flight. Just because the chassis is cheap doesn’t mean it all is.
Tyler Lowder (4 days ago)
Love the idea but not practical.
Donald J Pump (4 days ago)
The chick in the video is ugly yet hot at the same time? Explain!
Josiah Sanchez (4 days ago)
Its not a drone. Its a *glider*
anthony perkins (5 days ago)
I want the plans for this, where can I get them at?
Dylan Wicklund (5 days ago)
You have the GPS and batteries but what survival gear or medical gear huh?
Kyndjal (9 days ago)
drops a bomb and after a few days,no evidence.

Drop 10000 of those drones with small guns in them over Russia and I bet Putin and all his corrupted regime will be destroyed is few months.
JustLetMeDrive (22 days ago)
it is VERY tail heavy
kush singh (22 days ago)
This girl is very beautiful
jakob peters (23 days ago)
I don't get the concept of building a biodegradable drone while still putting electronic parts inside. Who is making sure that they don't end up in the environment. And why create waste when the whole project is designed to minimize waste?
If someone gets it, pls explain.
wormwood69 (23 days ago)
So you could drop anthrx and c4 and hey ho...????
J. B. (23 days ago)
Take out the GPS and install remote control , strap it to a balloon to take it way up high and have some kinda automated release system .. now you have a cool toy .
Douglas Kling (24 days ago)
No camera= not a drone
BAM5 (25 days ago)
Electronics... Not biodegradable
"Can't carry as much as a parachute"
Et voila, make a biodegradable parachute.
JunkYardRc 13 (26 days ago)
What about the electronics that are not bio degradable

won't drug lords be able to use something similar as well?
james redwine (27 days ago)
making a flying bomb Step 1 Make a drone. Step 2 Put bomb in drone Step 3 If drone dose not fly Give it MORE POWER MUAUAHAHAHAH. Thank you for watching a video by ISIS Inc.
Mark Wilko (28 days ago)
Its paid for by DARPA.
It will be used for dropping weapons etc... behind enemy lines.
Connor Stickels (28 days ago)
2 pounds of supplies is not a lot. A parachute could deliver more, and more cost-effectively. I don't see any reason to use this over a parachute
Subliminaltechpro (28 days ago)
you need an iq of 109 to make this
Animus Zero (28 days ago)
Female chubby joseph gordon levitt. Now you can't unsee it.
Ashwin Rawat (28 days ago)
Anyone whos ever built an rc plane would know how bad cardboard is for this stuff! You can make this with balsa/bamboo and paper and still be biodegradable and all that jazz, and be much lightweight than cardboard!
Probably a heavy plane built by a heavy woman is supposed to be a statement in this fat shaming patriarchal world! Go wired!
manikandan t (29 days ago)
this will probably end up being used as a low cost bombing device
Sanjay .S Kumar (29 days ago)
Random Stuff (29 days ago)
But the electronics in it are expensive and not biodegradable
Jordan Mielbrecht (30 days ago)
But will the electronic parts biodegrade?
Patrick Kasonde (1 month ago)
drones to help people vs drones of war next..
Zangdoodle (1 month ago)
Criminals and terrorists could use this too.
Phony1303 (1 month ago)
so the electronics decompose as well?
Rudstarvids 226 (1 month ago)
I’m gonna make this in kerbal space program
Vintage USA Tech (1 month ago)
Yes we must deliver thous Vaccines!
Conner Martin (1 month ago)
Hey smart guys. it's corrugated paper. cardboard is what shoes come in.
Behold the Sky Official (1 month ago)
the future is now
Michael Crumpton (1 month ago)
This is so over engineered it is crazy. You could make a simple paper delta kite style glider that could do the same thing in about 3 minutes with about 1/5 the materials. The fact that it is made out of cardboard or mushrooms is useless if it is not super easy/cheap/fast to assemble.
Alex (1 month ago)
A plane that biodegrades in seconds! Leaving behind a valuable bunch of rusty circuitry for you to play with!
vexonica 02 (1 month ago)
congratulations!, this so innovative here's your PhD degree
Drew Jackson (1 month ago)
what radius is it capable of gliding to once dropped by the drone?
fred flintstone (1 month ago)
Ram trucks are pieces of crap
adam rush (1 month ago)
okay, so the drone body decomposes... sure.. great! but they talk about releasing hundreds to thousands of these to deliver aid.
what about the li-po batteries?? are we just going to start littering lands with thousands of toxic batteries?
Dennis Hixson (1 month ago)
Your idea sounds good but it's not workable for one, you got all the electronics in it, waste of money right there for one time use, Li-Po battery have been know to catch on fire, plus it would take at least thousands of years for all that metal and plastic to disappear, and then you got wildlife who will chew on it and eat the electronics and plastic, they are not biodegradable.
Now for a hobby, you might sell kits of your flying wing, I might even consider one myself and attaching electric motor to it.
michael paulissen (1 month ago)
Be careful the Chinese could hijack the idea and convert it into a Lunar or Mars Orbiter!
Aussie Rod (1 month ago)

Man I’m a stupid . Clever stuff
Sterling Archer (1 month ago)
Perfect for delivering an aspirin to that guy on the beach, with the killer hangover. Humans are amazing!
Rick Lee (1 month ago)
They should make them out of edible material, so then the disaster victims can eat them.
RedEye (1 month ago)
Well. The plane is biodegradable. But what about the electronics and the Lipo inside? We're just gonna drop lipos all over the ground. Don't think that's good for the environment. Ridiculous.
Miktecrep (1 month ago)
Parachute is till better
TheTracatraca (1 month ago)
And probably the electronics and the cardboard will cost more than the cargo... not to mention the cost of taking the drones high over the target zone.
Eric (1 month ago)
Ballwiz 23 (1 month ago)
So basically go back to how drones were built back in the day before they were cool
Damon Santori (1 month ago)
Hamlik Abrahimian (1 month ago)
What about the batteries and electronics?
Alpha Machina (1 month ago)
Uhh.. okay. What about the electronics? That won't decompose. And why not just use biodegradable parachutes?
Umbrella Corporation Airsoft (1 month ago)
Looks identical to the Horten 229.
David (1 month ago)
What difference does it make if the wing material biodegrades in days (expensive mushroom) vs months (cheap cardboard) when the poisonous and flammable and explosive lithium ion cells and lead infused electronics never will?
Quetzel Coatl (1 month ago)
Bill Cosby (1 month ago)
I’m no expert, but if they have to drop it and it carries 2 pounds wouldn’t it be better to just parachute down an entire supply crate? I n
Know it won’t biodegrade, but those people receiving it could make use of them for storage or anything else really.
Kevin Robinson (1 month ago)
Ok, good idea, but why not just parachute supplies? These are not drones, these are really bulked up paper planes.
Research and Retardation (1 month ago)
It seems a little more complicated than projects like this need to be..... It is cool tho
vel wheel (1 month ago)
If the device is controlled with GPS and surface controls, wouldn't a controable parachute lowering a back pack loaded with fifty pounds of supplies be more cost effective?
ChickenPieJack (1 month ago)
Carlos Pitcher (1 month ago)
isn't it easier just to parachute stuff away... I mean, you are still going to use a cargo plane... And ok... you might reach different spots, but then again, just fly the plane over different destinations.
You can even slow the plane down and reduice altitude. And (it's a big and) you don't expose people to the pain of disposing the electronics and dealing with a lipo battery... plus, the pain of having a limited payload...
This is a "fausse bonne idee" as the french say... meaning it's a bad good idea.
The cardboard plane has the merit of being studied tho... might comme handy for other purposes.
Bass Based (1 month ago)
because saving lives takes money.
taking lives makes money... that's why.
Viktor (1 month ago)
Whenever I hear DARPA founded, i get a bit sceptical... you want devise a method of delivering a 2 pound payload to a given GPS coordinate on the cheap... yeah... humanitarian effort for sure. Smart carpet bombing? Its not indiscriminate if you give it coordinates... Nobody? Just me. Okay... Guess I just have a twisted mind.
Aldous Orwell (1 month ago)
Cool! But make it out of hemp too and then smoke it. It would be great for smuggling drug across the Mexican border.
Michael Sorrell (1 month ago)
Millions of unfriendly components all over the landscape sounds like a mess.

Make the wings out of uncooked lasagne noodle. They can have the cake and eat it too.
