Amazon Testing Drone Delivery System

Support My Channel By Shopping on Amazon! http://amzn.to/2atadUZ SUBSCRIBE https://goo.gl/OXghgH https://www.facebook.com/deejay.gabriel.7 Amazon's chief executive has revealed that the company is testing a new service involving delivery by mini-drones to get packages to customers in just 30 minutes. Jeff Bezos appeared on CBS television's 60 Minutes programme in the US where he played a video from their website showing tiny robotic devices, called 'octocopters', picking up items in small yellow buckets and whizzing them through the air. "I know this looks like science fiction. It's not," Mr Bezos said. "We can do half-hour delivery ... and we can carry objects, we think, up to five pounds which covers 86% of the items that we deliver." The mini-drones are powered by electric motors and could cover areas within a 10-mile radius of fulfillment centres, thus covering a significant portion of the population in urban areas in the US. The retail giant's ambitious project still requires additional safety testing and federal approval but Mr Bezos estimated that Amazon 'Prime Air', as it would be called, would be up and running in four to five years. They operate autonomously and drop the items at the target locations thanks to GPS coordinates transmitted to them. "It's very green, it's better than driving trucks around," said Mr Bezos. Amazon said the octocopters would be "ready to enter commercial operations as soon as the necessary regulations are in place," noting that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was actively working on rules for unmanned aerial vehicles. It projected a more optimistic timeline than Mr Bezos himself for the project to be activated, saying the FAA's rules could be in place as early as 2015 and that Amazon Prime Air would be ready at that time. Mr Bezos hinted that part of the motivation behind the mini-drones was to make sure Amazon remains on the cutting edge of the retail industry. "Companies have short life spans ... And Amazon will be disrupted one day," he said. "I would love for it to be after I'm dead." It is not known if there are plans for the service to be launched outside of the US.

The drone just landed the stuff at the door step but what if we are not at the home or busy at the time what if someone stills it?The drone should have a sensor fixed in in so that the drone wont go back until it sees a person to received the parcel.

I'm a professional drone operator and builder of drones and this is all bollocks. 1/The most advanced battery technology at the moment only allows approx a 10-12 minute flight time each way at a maximum flight speed of about 30-35 mph assuming its dead calm and no wind speed, with a load/package this equates to about 4-5 miles maximum each way...and this is really pushing it, add 10mph wind and you could half that. I bet 80% of the time you have at least 10 mph winds and another 50% higher winds than that. so if you average the wind speed out on an average day the maximum flight distance each way is no more than a couple of miles! THE TRUCK MAY AS WELL DELIVER THE PARCEL ITSELF. With the most advanced battery technology available at the moment it takes an hour to charge them up..so unless the ups van is carrying as many spare batteries as parcels this is ridiculous. In the USA at least where gun control is almost none existent people will just shoot them out the sky...i bet it will become the next biggest gun sport. These size drones will cost approx 10k to build and if enough of them are shot out the sky it will cost too much to operate, additionally i know how many flights you will get out of each battery before its ready for the bin so add battery cost to the cost of the drone build and running the service and you'll end up with a delivery costing $50 plus...and who's going to pay that? Current obstacle avoidance technology wont be fast enough to detect bird strikes so there's more drones falling out the sky. i can buy on Ebay a cheap jammer that could also down the drone, all these points above would all make way for a black market in cheap advanced commercial drone electronics for sale. I could go on and on with technical reasons why it wont work but i'm off to bed and cant be bothered....peace.

If this happens...Would we all have a drone hatch in our ROOF, there then is less chance of THEFT of INJURY to people or pets. Also, from that same hatch, collections could be made by your personal homing drone possibly for smaller items when all shipping company drones are busy.

Somebody could've bring down the drone and steal it along with the package it carry. Someone already tested special trained eagle that snatch the drone in midair. Sure, maybe the drone can't be use by the thief. But the components, like the high performance motor, would still worth something.

I'd be more worried about the distance: How far are these things supposed to go? How heavy can they carry? Would it account for residential floors? (Since people don't always live on the ground floor). Sure, it's been a few years, but they should work on refining these over and over.

Wow, what a wonderfully impractical idea that was... Imagine tens of thousands of these little buggers cluttering up the sky, blowing around all over the place, cutting off little arms and legs. Like wasps but their sting is slightly more deadly. The other day I counted literally NONE of these drones up in the sky, oh what a surprise! :)

We can engage them with ground to air projectile or we can use electronic counter measures ECM to distract them. If one of them pass over your home and violates your airspace, you can warn and then seek and destroy. You can prepare fighter drones which will be in readiness to engage the possible enemy craft like this - SCRAMBLE SCRAMBLE! INCOMING ENEMY CRAFT! PREPARE FOR LAUNCH!

from Rattlesnake Tribe at Flanders Lane Banished Island: it's useful if it's piloted by a computer. We don't need humans. It's practical. The drones can fly so it's faster. But if there are objects or obstacles in the air (birds, planes, another drone, electrical posts) it's dangerous for drones.
Sébastien Franc (2 years ago)
from Rattlesnake Tribe at Flanders Lane Banished Island: that's dangerous if we meet a thief. That's nice because we use technology and imagine a new role for the machine although that's bad because the drone can replace humas and dismiss jobs. That's faster than a vehicle and more ecological
Sébastien Franc (2 years ago)
from Rattlesnake Tribe at Flanders Lane Banished Island: it's a good idea because it's very fast but there are thieves and it's dangerous for birds and people. Maybe the drone can bump onto a tree and was broken by this ( for the prize it's very bad!)
Sébastien Franc (2 years ago)
from Rattlesnake Tribe at Flanders Lane Banished Island: good idea for the future!

Anyone who is talking about shooting it down or stealing it is an idiot. Stuff already gets stolen now, when UPS drivers leave stuff on the doorstep in view of anyone who walks past. A drone could drop it off in a backyard where its out of plain sight, and it's only 30 minutes, so you would know when it shows up. And shooting down a drone is illegal, and you can get caught very easily.
