The individual in charge made a big mistake, they should of done their research regarding where the sales where the highest. What type of individuals were shopping, where they singles or the traditional family. Singles used college students, traditional family use a mom shopping for their kids. Keep celebrities out of commercials, use the every day shopper to do the commercials. These are your repeated customers.

I'd be happy to see J.C. Penny go. Their management took a blatantly insulting public posture towards Christians, whom they bigotedly described as bigots for not endorsing gay marriage.

JCP failed because they virtue signal to everyone BUT the nuclear Wife-Husband-Cisgendered kids these days. They focus on the "diversity first" bullshit rather than selling quality products to the predominant culture - straight people and traditional families. Stop with the gay spokespeople, same-sex marriage, "non traditional family" crap to cater to those fringe groups. Your core business comes from one father/one mother households. Stop pushing diversity into all facets of life. No, we don't just "need to accept it". it's NOT "fact of life today" it's a perversion of life and it is still a severe minority. If people are feeling "offended" or "marginalized", oh well. Their other recent mistake was glamorizing fat people by trying to perpetuate the nonsense of "beautiful at any size" which is wholly unhealthy and frankly irresponsible. Sorry, but you SHOULDN'T be comfortable with yourself if you weigh 300lbs. You should not just accept it. Someone telling you you're beautiful ant any size and enabling you should also be responsible when you keel over and die from a heart attack.

The Container Store. LOL. They jumped on the sales from nasty little crappy stores like Dollar General, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, etc. No way to undermine that. Poor People need lots of containers for trashy life styles.. It's true. But... they also like one-stop shopping for candy, fat, salt, and other plastic crap.
materialgirl8707 (17 days ago)
I don't know about the gay thing for JCPenney but it could be a factor, because whether the liberals want to face the truth or not, many people do not like that kind of lifestyle or see it as normal. I'll be honest and say that I am one of them. And besides that, their merchandise just sucks like hell now. Back in the day they used to have really chic looking fashions for ladies and junior or young and modern girls like me but in the past 8 years or so that's disappeared. I used to love their housewares and elegant beddings back in the early to mid 2000s but sadly that also has disappeared. They're very lucky that they carry Sephora boutiques because if it were not for them, they'd be on their death bed by now.
Annette Melnychuk (17 days ago)
I thought Walmart was going to be on that list for the treatment of its employees while the CEOs are sitting back and getting rich off of the employees and not revealing that their clothing is made by cheap labor in Asian sweat shops

So all of these companies have stupid management ? That's what the Democrats said about Trump going thru bankruptcy ! So you're saying there can be reasons that companies aren't successful ? Not just stupidity ? A casino going bankrupt ? Hillary said ,"if you can't make money in a casino , you're not a good businessman " ! I guess she's an ass .

So basically, over priced stuff and homosexual ads killed JCPenny. When it comes to style. Bluejeans, T-shirts, ball caps, sneakers, suits, dress shoes, and certain types of dress hats will never go out of style. Lady Gaga's stuff. Don't get me started. I see someone wearing a meat suit. I'm about to put on my bully shoes. I see me doing it then, as trying to save them from more humiliation, a bad smell, and possibly and infection from wearing raw meat.

The closing of stores indicate (based on the stores primary market income) that the community will dry up and the people will leave it for other climes. It's not good if they can't even leave when all is drying up. It can lead to some savory social issues. No revenue is a dead end if the people don't work it out themselves (local market) or aren't allowed to. It's also the end of an era of thinking and the expectations that support that line of thinking and the institutions that massage the nation into that line of thinking. Once the disappearance of the communities population is completely gone the psyche of the nation will change dramatically due to the loss of creativity and influences from an older generation. Look at New York for instance. That place is nothing like it once was. It does not display the character nor the mindset it once did. The energy and the beat that drove you to work almost happily is long gone. The closed family businesses; that's what made it feel the way it once did. Not glorifying it but who can argue that their struggles and their success stories are already becoming legend and the times iconic. Even though in large part the depiction was no where near the true nature of the times. Every generation can tell you how hard it once was and the loss. But I think these times are shaping up to be much different. "How sweet the water when the well runs dry."

Nothing no matter what it is last forever! Everything & everyone we are accustomed to is only for a season, then vanishes with the wind. Not one thing or person in our lives will be around forever - at a certain point in time (God is aware of, but not us) everything and everyone in our lives will for a fact will vanishing from our lives most of the time without warning. The Holy Bible says: Every person alive and part of our lives including ourselves are like a mist, here for a very short time, then vanishes forever! So I offer this advice: 1. Take no one or anything for granted they will be gone one day. 2. Never miss a chance to say: I LOVE YOU to the ones we care about. We don’t always get the chance to say our good-by; leaving an empty void in our lives. 3. Last piece of advice: Take the time now to enjoy our loved ones; smell the flowers and fresh air and enjoy life; we only get one chance to do so, then it passes us by forever. Make life count: be kind, love, and cherish every special moment they only come around once; “nothing is more important than doing and enjoying life....”

Haven't heard of half of these companies. Penny's is still around. Sprint messed up Nextel service and their customer service sucks. Dropped them within a year after they bought Nextel. I could see Sears failing, because they completely bank on people still shopping on a brick and mortar basis. Their website is USELESS! I can't tell you how many times I shopped that website and was told I couldn't purchase anything because it wasn't 'in-stock' or I had to go to a store in another state. Eventually, I wrote to their customer service folks and told them how inane it was for them to expect their customers to travel out of state to purchase an item advertised on their website. They have a cart, but it's completely useless. Sad, but if they can't keep up with the times and hire adept IT folks for web development, marketing, and online purchasing...then they're going to simply disappear. As for some of the other businesses, I'm sure they'll rebound once the economy experiences a refreshing upswing in the coming months. This holiday season should be a great tell for some of the businesses that are struggling. It's a great sign for businesses if people spend a lot of money during the holidays. It's usually an indicator that people have disposable income to spare and are willing to spend more.

I dont feel bad for Sears at all..or reallt JCpenny or Macys for that matter..all of them were house hold names far before the internet was even a thing, they all could have gained a foot hole in online sales.
