If you don't have a snowblower then you can't let the snow get over two in. Then its just like sweeping rather than shoveling. I would rather powerwalk back n forth, even if it means losing sleep, getting up it the middle of the night. Otherwise its the same as digging ditches. It becomes a huge, all day job if you let it get to six in plus like this.
nativenuggets76 (28 days ago)
Bart Price (28 days ago)
My dad had my 3 older sister mix and pour the concrete sidewalk around our house to make shoveling snow from under the eaves easier for them in the winter, and for a clear path to push wheelbarrows full of firewood to the porch.

Here is what I do for the midwestern winters. Step one: Get winter gear. Step two: Go to the garage. Step Three: Make sure snowblower has enough gas to get her started. Step four: Take snowblower out of the garage. Step five: Turn clutch to on. Step six: Turn snowblower to on. Step seven: Press seven times to pump gas into the engine. Sept eight: Pull the cord to start the blower. Step nine: Let her run a bit and turn clutch to off. Step ten: Push the bar by the handle to get the blades to move. Step Eleven: Smile knowing this is much faster than shoveling heavy snow. Step twelve: The sidewalk. Step thirteen: Don't forget to help neighbors who don't have a blower. Step Fourteen: Noticed you accidentally got snow on the neighbor's driveway. Step Fifteen: Do the neighbor's driveway. Step Sixteen: Put blower back in the garage and go into the house and remember you did not salt the sidewalk. Step seventeen: Salt the sidewalk.

5 real stages of shoveling snow :
1) I fucking hate snow why did it snow so fucking much last night
2) Why the fuck don't I move I hate this so much
3) Jesus christ I need to buy a snow blower
4) Fuck you and your snow blower, come over here and do mine
5) Ah that wasn't so bad

I'm from Buffalo NY, we skipped optimism step #1 and replaced it with cursing and cussing at and about the snow, #2 look at our shovel and give it the finger and say snowblower it is. #3 We stay outside till we turn blue and cant feel our face because we don't just do our driveway and sidewalks we feel like we need to do the entire neighborhood. #4 We go the store and buy a 12 pack and good job and well done.

Least you don't have snakes hanging out on your porch because it's warmer near the door, or your neighbors god damn chickens shitting on your carport again, or instantly sweating because you live on a sandbar of a state that's 12 feet from the Sun.

The worst is living on a street where they plow, and at the same time your parents make you park curbside. So then you just have a shit ton of compact snow to shovel.

Matthew Pappas (1 month ago)
Anytime im shoveling the driveway and wonder why do i live here, i just remember the never ending humidity the south has as well as the crocodiles, alligators, snakes, and all the other creatures that roam the south and enter your house. I like the cold weather. Just dont appreciate snow and salt. But it is what it is.

I don't know but (1 month ago)
Stage 1 is optimism. Stage 2 is fading optimism the moment you realize it's a dense, icy, and heavy snow. Full body sweat is for rookies. Also you left out stabbing your shovel into the thick layer of ice and snow underneath loose snow, glued to the driveway/sidewalk, and eventually saying to hell with it and calling it good enough.

And this is where midwest optimism comes in. "Oh, it will be spring before you know it, just a few more shovelings" -> "Oh, it will be fall before you know it, just a few more mowings" -> "oh it will be winter soon, only a few more times raking the leaves". The cycle continues. Always looking forward to something.
