Why Elon Musk, Facebook and MIT Are Betting On Mind-Reading Technology

4384 ratings | 286598 views
Elon Musk, Facebook, MIT, and a 16-year-old inventor are in the race to read minds with computers. Currently, researchers can detect brainwaves and track electromagnetic pulses within the neurons in our brains. Will this technology completely change humanity and what it means to be human? Big players like Elon Musk and Facebook have teased their entrance into a market that's expected to reach $1.72B by 2022. New research is pouring out of universities like Massachusetts Institute of Technology and The University of California in San Francisco. » Subscribe to CNBC: https://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC » Subscribe to CNBC TV: https://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBCtelevision » Subscribe to CNBC Classic: https://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBCclassic About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. Only Engineers With best equipment neuro-link etc. will pass interiews. With acess to all data: maths etc. They will spend Money for that "invest in them self". Rest of us will be jobbless, couse all will take AI. Not in far future.

Thats the end of humanity. Beginning of huge competition. Mass manipulation, and ofcourse mankind will do it to its self :(
r4ng3rownz8 (11 hours ago)
I absolutely don't think this will work, or be able to read minds or control us in anyway. At the very most the device itself will be able to interact with an outside computer, but cannot interact with our thoughts, and emotions, etc. Something like this being inside our body can cause all kinds of problems. I definitely will not allow anything like this in my brain.

World leaders want to push AI for we could elevate our existence to be invited into a galactic empire that we are not aware of at this point. We humans are quite violent and do not meet that standards to be in this galactic community so apparently we need AI for we could be controlled and peaceful with these elevated entities but how pathetic is that ? We need to believe in our self and make this world peaceful ourselves without the help of AI.

The kid has the right idea. Elon Musk is talking big with his magical miniature electrode wires and small cuts but forgets to add that the technology is invasive. It does not cause much damage, but the results are not as spectacular as the masters and commanders are currently claiming... to get further funding. Check out Dr. Philip Kennedy's relatively recent experiment on his very own brain, he is really one of the experts not some nouveau riche spoiled billionaire who tries to drum up venture capital. Some day, President Trump does not have to use Twitter, he just think up some nonsense and the deserving few who have the right receivers implanted can directly and instantly sense his brain signals.

Use your innate intelligence to tap into the organic Truth of reality itself, without technology. Just do it, its more fulfilling. It takes dedication and awareness of emotional feeling. A lot of this is trying to recreate the profound direct experience of Organic Truth, and is a result of ignorantly thinking that the answers to life are separate from our fundamental self.

From Monkey 2016 to Dog 2018, Pig 2019 (1 day ago)
The technology described by Elon Musk, using the tiny wire electrodes implanted in the brain is invasive. It does not cause much damage but at the moment the results are,not as spectacular as they are trying to present them for further funding. Check out Dr Philip Kennedy who offered his own brain to get such brain implants, he is one of the leading experts of the field.
KingMartits (2 days ago)
I think a lot of comments here aren't understanding this technology. It can't read and understand your thoughts. It can take instructions from your brain which you will have to learn how to give. It could fix disabilities by re-attaching neurons or allowing the user to control robotics. Calm down conspiracy theorists. The intenton is good. It will not change who we are.
KingMartits (1 day ago)
@AmbientVibes You're just making that up. The government does not have control over facebook. It is a private business. I assume you are talking about the American government. If that was the case, the EU wouldn't allow Facebook in their member states. Ever heard of Edward Snowden? He uncovered the US spying. It was a illegal and got shut down. You think the government controls everything but they still have to follow laws and they can't control private enterprises. If anything, it's the other way round.
From Monkey 2016 to Dog 2018, Pig 2019 (1 day ago)
Actually, the intention is presented as helping the impaired individuals but the long term goal is creating improved individuals, better soldiers ... faster programmers, pilots, etc.
AmbientVibes (1 day ago)
Yup just like how the technology behind Facebook was good 20 years ago. Then when it got big the government took over. Now they can read everything you type. They can chose who you see or if your even allowed there. Now lets put that in your brain.

I Do appreciate these genius chip heads inventions. There is so much brain damage/alterations occurring in modern man these days , I'm sure this stuff will be well used amongst the creators and thier immediate families and others who went overboard on a.i. usage in the first place. Just don't sneak it into us who don't want it right? But it's cool stuff and I don't think it's that dangerous to All humanity, this first wave of experimentation....I've known wonderful people who are chipped already. Make it fun
Jamie Barr (2 days ago)
Kinda nice for disabled people far from being able to transverse thought or unlock more of the brain
Marc Abramsky (2 days ago)
I think it is an interesting field. However, has anyone asked whether the brain will allow this in a biological sense or are we creating a pandora's box? We are forgoing safety precautions for advancement. Look we know that the cell phone causes cancer where it has been placed close to the ear or mind if you will. What happens when you not only have wireless signals entering the brain but wiring inserted into the brain that is not genetic? I love the idea that we can access data in a positive way. I like the idea of being smart considering I am not very smart at this point. What is the cost of doing this? Will our brains be susceptible to hackers? Will our brains reject the third layer cortex? Will it create a serious viral problem in a biological sense? I don't know. I am not smart enough to know the consequences and I don't think these people are either. Proceed with caution is my advice.

what you described is the agenda behind it ... there are those who have black consciousness for the use with this technology ... the big money elites will direct it ultimately ..sure there will be the public perception that its for those who cant walk etc ... but that's not the reason behind it

That will NEVER happen . To actually read thoughts , no way. That’s what makes us such unique creatures. NO ONE even knows what exactly consciousness is yet and where it is “stored” ... great work , but reading brain waves will never answer our personal thoughts On top of that, if they did actually do that , it should be goddamn illegal . Even if it’s something as simple as the mind thinking it wants music on , it doesn’t matter , it’s dangerous and it will get in the hands of the wrong people , like everything does ...
The World is a Stage (2 days ago)
Roman Klimenko there is a HUGE difference. A decade ago, I definitely knew and would have bet money that computers/ electronics would advance enough to the level of beating someone in chess. It’s a computer that can easily be programmed to learn the game of chess and learn all the moves systematically, that’s basically the point of a computer hence why there smarter than any mathematician on the planet... Anyone with a brain knew that computers will eventually be smarter than humans (the evolution of technology was occurring right in front of us), but intelligence and consciousness are two completely different animals... Building a computer to figure out our thoughts is on a whole new level. And since we can’t even figure out what consciousness is yet, how is anyone expecting us to teach a computer to learn about it . That’s what makes the human species so magical - which is our conscious world
Roman Klimenko (2 days ago)
Just a decade ago we would not believe computer is smart enough to defeat us in chess. Now it's a history. Consciousness is hard to grasp. But only because we're still learning about it.

Version 3: The AI in your head realizes it can replicate your brain with a few modification so it will make a 3d printed version of you and then you are no longer needed and obsolete. Good job preventing skynet by merging with it... wait a minute, you accelerated it.
