Facebook Unveils Portal Smart Speakers

235 ratings | 24028 views
Facebook on Monday unveiled the Portal and Portal+, directly challenging Amazon, Google and Apple in the fast-growing smart-speaker market with a unique approach that will emphasize video calling. To start a video call, users can say "Hey Portal, call ..." followed by the name of a connection on Facebook's Messenger service. These calls include entertaining augmented-reality features that can outfit users with cat hats or turn their living rooms into animated night clubs. Another feature is Smart Camera, which uses artificial intelligence and the devices' cameras to perfectly frame users on video as they move around while on a call. "Portal+ and Portal really live up to that idea of helping you feel closer and allowing you to spend more quality time with people, even if they live thousands of miles away from you," said Dave Kaufman, marketing lead for Facebook's Portal division. » Subscribe to CNBC: http://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. Before anyone purchase stuff like this... you need to give it the 24-month window... meaning it'll need to go through a few security patch updates... no way I'll be the first...

Facebook founder mistake That he sought behind the money did not seek behind the idea He did not put a large wall in front of the hacker He sought behind the number of registrants and did not seek to protect the users ....................... Everyone loves Google because it seeks to delight users and not only seeks money This is why "always the best" and accessories Because it's 90% free, "This is why it's so successful and the users love it." It's very high-tech and protects users for free : The founder of Google is the real genius and generous knowledge and beloved globally and is the example of success globally: a fact .................... Thank you, God bless America,

@ :44 seconds -->> Why does the black woman look like a pig (with the augmented reality pig overlay)? I guess the marketing team was just afraid to offend any other race. This is once again another example of subliminal messages sent to the masses. And as for the portal, I agree with Sumanth I. Why PAY to be enslaved and policed in your own home?!

Everyone is so mad at Facebook for a third party mismanagement of info when there is documented proof there is Chinese spy chips in your iPhone also millions got thier SSN Birthday and other info stolen from Equifax but yea you all right, how dare they release our answers to survey poll about politics......
rabit818 (2 months ago)
Facebook forgot to mention that hackers can track you down on the November elections
rosjio99 (2 months ago)
Yeah and on a daily bases Facebook will hand over videos of you and your family to our government (the NSA clearly has a back door entry into all Facebook products), other governments, corporate organizations (Cambridge Analytica), and anyone else with a big enough check. As long as the device is connected to the internet, the camera can be turned on at any moment. No thanks. Have we really become this dependent on technology?
Taco J (2 months ago)
nope no thanks i wont pay facebook to invade my home

Should be called FaceSpy! FaceBook has proven more than once they are compromising personal information so why would anyone who has any common sense buy this? Worse than living in a glass house because an untold number of ppl can not only see but hear you in your own home where you should have privacy, not to mention record this info for clandestine use.

Facebook's attempt to enter our homes and do surveillance on us , No THANKS! I'll stick to Skype or simple text. Facebook already sells our information to its sponsors, why would I allow them into my home? Goofy chat apps, there are plenty other 3rd party apps that do that and aren't as big brother'ish as Facebook! Zukerberg might as well work for the NSA.

You think fb has nothing better to do then to spy on you while you are being lazy at home? If you would have a company would you put your employee watch random videos on YouTube while at work? Think a little bit more
