2263 ratings | 77214 views
Running an Etsy shop can be tricky are you making these Top 10 Etsy Mistakes? Here are my tips for Etsy Beginners 1. Complete your entire Etsy shop when, including shop Policies. 2. Make sure you have clickable and cohesive looking shop and product images. 3.Use all or most of the Etsy shop photos. 4.Do your keyword research. Keywords are the only way you can get found. 5.Use keywords in your shop title, first paragraph of your shop description, product title, first paragraph of product description, and product tags. 6.Not all of your keywords should have a lot of competition. You want to get seen, not lost in all of the noise. 7.Put the most important keyword first in your title. 8.Tap into buyers emotions in your descriptions and product descriptions should be approximately 300 words. Think how can I improve the life of my customer with this product. 9.Once a day add products to your Etsy shop increasing daily to a minimum of 50 products in your shop. 10.Make products where you can sell multiple quantities of the same thing. Etsy algorithm likes to see sales and then renewals. What are your Etsy selling questions?
Lauren Bogosian (17 days ago)
Hii!! I just came across this helpful video when researching shipping on Etsy. Would you be able to cover that topic? I am a calligrapher and have very large wood signs that I send out to surrounding states. I have been asked multiple times if I can ship further and I have had to, unfortunately, deny that request. It costs $30 just to ship the next state over....I feel terrible having buyers buy the signs and then have to pay almost the same amount for shipping if they live further away. Any tips? I am just a small shop so no contract with ups or anything like that....

Thank you for your video. It is most helpful. Question, please? When someone makes a purchase from my Etsy page, I should renew the listing? I thought the listing was good for 4 months?
Kara Skye (1 month ago)
When repeating the title in keywords and tags, I am limited to the number of words and characters that can be put in a tag. Is it okay to break them all up into separate tag words? Like Spring Door Wreath as spring and door wreath as tags? Also does capitalization matter in the tags? Great video, beautiful Etsy shop and wreaths. Thank-you for your help and information.

Is etsy for amateurs manifacturers or I need to have a profesional workshop? In my case, I work with wood and I have a small workshop in my garage. I do that as a hobby. Is it possible to open an account on etsy?
Vickie Cook (8 hours ago)
Your info was very good and very interesting. I've had a shop since Nov 2012. A couple good friends helped me set up and start my shop. My shop is listed as Vickiescrafts,,,which that's the name I've used for over 30 years. Anyway I'm from Tyner Ky.,,and my name is spelled with an ie on the end. I'm not exactly sure what I might be doing wrong could be a number of things I guess. But I'm just a small seller. By that I mean it's only me no one working under me. I will take into consideration all your great advice and tips. If you happen to have time to visit my shop then maybe u can give me some first hand advice. I'm not using all the pictures. But I will start doing that with my new listings. I know I'm not listing often enough. I should stop listing 8 items at one time and start listing 1 a day. Multiples is probably another thing I need to do more often too when I can. Anyway thank you for taking the time to try to help other Etsy shop owners.

You were talking about "one of a kind" items. I can reprint my photos, remake the piggy banks, remake the handwarmers and can remake and customize the baby cradles. However, my Steampunk jewelry, my beaded jewelry designs and the earring designs are all one of a kind designs. My store statement is "Unique Designs for the Uncommon Soul" There are several photographs that are numbered as well and when they get to the number specified, I will close those out. I understand about the key words better now and will have to work on that. Could you tell me if there ever is a time where a person can have too many items in their shop? I have been on Etsy now for a long time. I actually started in 2008 after I tried to make my own website and couldn't get anyone to see it. I have only made 65 sales total. Would you be willing to look at my shop and just tell me if I have too much on it or if it is confusing to people?? My shop name is under "freedancer" and you can get to it by etsy.com/shop/freedancer. The name of my business is Jewelry Designs by Pamela. It lists on Google search as Jewelry Designs by Pamela by freedancer on etsy. I have some sections on my site which state "Everything $10.00" and "Bargin Basement" in which I put things that haven't moved for a long time. Is that a good thing or a bad thing to do? My Steampunk is very complex so I charge alot for it. Several people think I should just pick two categories and use them only. What are your thoughts on this? Should my cover photo be of a jewelry nature?? I have a recent photo of the items that won ribbons at the State Fair. Would that be a better cover photo? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. freedancer50@aol.com is my email. Thank you.

thank you very much. l have been a potter for 48 years but sales have always been a perplexing mystery for me. l found your video very helpful, though it remains to be seen if l can make my new etsy shop work. At any rate l intend to follow your ten points as carefully as l can. You are a fine teacher and l appreciate your effort. l would be remiss if l didn't tell you my etsy account is called Bruen Pottery.

This video was very helpful and I have a lot of work to do to my ETSY shops. My question is: is there a way to make changes to multiple items at one time other than using the “Quick Edit” tab? I have over 800 items in Dorysfindings and I need to make keyword changes and description changes in almost every one of my listings. But as you know it takes lots of time to change each one individually. I have over 600 more/new items to add to my shop and I’m trying to get them added. I do use the “quick edit” to make multiple changes but thats still one at a time. Is there an easier way to make these changes to multiple items at the same time?? All of my stats have dropped this year. Some have dropped 50% or more and I’m in panic mode right now. Please help!! Thanks, Dorinda

You must have been a motivational speaker in your earlier life! Yikes! Ok, so I just found your site today and both subscribed and hit the notification bell, yay. So, I have several plastic tubs of handmade jewelry, little crystal and/or wire animals, sock snowmen, Swarovski rosaries, just all sorts of items I've made but never attempted to sell because I didn't know where to start. I'm still somewhat confused about the billing part of it and whether to list as much of it as I can to get the ball rolling, or list only one item at a time, daily? That advice didn't make sense to me, if you could explain that again, please. Lastly, you must be very busy and it's difficult to find the time to respond to your listeners, but I read quite a few good questions below that writers wrote in, but no response. Maybe those questions can be addressed in your next video? Thanks so much for the ideas you gave us just now!

I think your advice on pricing is insulting! How can you say low means less quality and less value? That higher price means that the shop owner knows what they are doing, I disagree with you 100%. I make items and sell on Etsy and I take great pride in my work. I use quality fabric and take time to make sure my product is of the best quality I can offer. Just because it is low in price does not mean it is an inferior product. Sometimes the high cost of shipping is a factor that turns buyers away.
Lillian Antoci (1 month ago)
I watched your video and I think some of your tips are not correct. Most buyers do not narrow down what they want. For example, if they wanted a Christmas stocking, they would enter Christmas Stocking. They will not enter Christmas stocking for the mantel. If they enter Christmas stocking they have over 1800 items whereas if they entered Christmas Stocking for the mantel they will only have 2 options. I tried it. My stocking would be found in the large Christmas stocking but not n Christmas Stocking for the mantel which means my stockings will never be seen by buyers, Keywords don't always don't work.

Thanks Julie, for such an informative, enlightening and therapeutic approach to Etsy marketing. I will definitely use all of your suggestions, as there is much more to the staging of a successful Etsy campaign than most people would care to imagine, the best of which comes across in the obvious edge your presentation delivers, all without becoming boring or overbearing as so often happens. Here's hoping you have a most blessed upcoming Thanksgiving. - David / Cambridge, OH

I rework my tags at least once a week based on results that I get from Etsy Gadget, but the sales and views are still very low. I think it's about the product category, the uniqueness of the product, and the competition level. As nice as it is to be able to have a place where your handmade creations can be exposed, the categories are so congested and the competition is so large that it makes it impossible for small shop owners to compete with the larger shops. Everybody gives the same tips about using social media, SEO, and tags. Just before I listen to this video, I viewed another one that stated that Etsy had made changes in 2018 that the three aforementioned doesn't work anymore as far as getting your shop at or near the front of the line for viewing. At the end of the day some of us have budgets that do not allow us to renew product on a weekly basis. We often spend more then we bring in and that can get old very quick.

I always sort lowest price to highest price because I find some people get greedy and over-price their stuff when you can find the same product of equal quality for cheaper.
The Butterfly Wizardess (1 month ago)
Etsy says that your titles should be as short and descriptive as possible, and etsy rank tends to think that the longer titles make your listings written for computers and not people who do searching. I always get so confused because the advice I get from other sellers seems to clash directly with what Etsy actually tells sellers to do.

I am having a huge problem on Etsy I'm trying so hard and I am taking your advice I just am not understanding? So if my prices are too low and I'm offering free shipping that automatically means that people assume my product is not good quality? But it is? Everything I use is good quality I just want to offer free shipping and a discount so people can see my product and then get a couple 5-star reviews to help boost sales

WHY HELP THE COMPETITION YOU DUMB STUPID FUCKS. I mean Really? You complain about the competition and then turn around and offer help and advice when the competition ask for it. Are you fucking stupid? Or is more about your ego so you can see how smart you THINK you are. Fuck you and keep you stupid singing mouth shut. Let these fucks figure shit out on their own.
