Running an Etsy shop can be tricky are you making these Top 10 Etsy Mistakes? Here are my tips for Etsy Beginners
1. Complete your entire Etsy shop when, including shop Policies.
2. Make sure you have clickable and cohesive looking shop and product images.
3.Use all or most of the Etsy shop photos.
4.Do your keyword research. Keywords are the only way you can get found.
5.Use keywords in your shop title, first paragraph of your shop description, product title, first paragraph of product description, and product tags.
6.Not all of your keywords should have a lot of competition. You want to get seen, not lost in all of the noise.
7.Put the most important keyword first in your title.
8.Tap into buyers emotions in your descriptions and product descriptions should be approximately 300 words. Think how can I improve the life of my customer with this product.
9.Once a day add products to your Etsy shop increasing daily to a minimum of 50 products in your shop.
10.Make products where you can sell multiple quantities of the same thing. Etsy algorithm likes to see sales and then renewals.

+emma walters You should have an Instagram, Titter, Facebook page and a Pinterest Board devoted to that business and every time you list an item for sale, post that item on all of those forms of social media because that brings traffic. I will be posting a youtube video shortly on social media and Etsy.

I think it is important for people to consider the truth about the "small" 5% selling fee that Etsy charges people to sell items on their site, how with the 3 different charges now involved(3% +.25 financial conversion, 5 % Etsy Commission+.20 relisting fee, + 5% shipping amount charged fee) considered, the cost to sell items on Etsy can end up being more like 30% of a person's actual profit margin.... For example, I sold a crafted hoodie where after most of my cost to make it were deducted I made just under $10.00 profit. (without deducting for my time, monthly internet and software fees, nor the taxes I will end up also paying the IRS at the end of the year)...Etsy took $3.00 of the sale - 30% of my profit - and then took the remainder of the sale ($27.00 that was to be paid to me) and applied it towards any existing listing fees I owed them TO DATE. Being I had just listed over 100 items 2 days prior- I received NO money from Etsy for the sale of the next two items that were sold on Etsy- including the amount that was paid - and I needed at the time- for me to ship the items; rather than letting me pay the recently incurred listing fees at the end of a 30 day billing cycle - as I had always done in the past - therefore eliminating the money I needed to cover not only shipping on 2 items now- but also the working capital I needed to purchase more supplies like most other small businesses - starting out on a shoestring - rely on.
Also if a person has their own website and is trying to gain customers/traffic from Etsy to their site... what more than likely will happen is the listings they place on Etsy- and all those strong KEYWORD tags they enter onto their Etsy listings- will instead end up actually competing - for search engine traffic - against their very own website and the products listed there- according to search engine relevance - Etsy will Dominate according to its size and SEO influence. So, in fact, most of the business minded people on Etsy are actually paying Etsy a lot of their hard earned money - and precious keyword power- just to have Etsy turn around and cut them off at their own knees in the end.
I truly mean you NO disrespect here Southern Charm Wreaths, you are obviously trying to help others and deserve a huge thank you - SO THANK YOU - for doing so, but you also need to be realistic and honest with your viewers too... I was on Etsy when it first started and I have watched as it has changed- quite a bit- over the years into what I now see today as it being nothing but a huge disappointment for many, one that I will soon be leaving never to look back or return to myself. Yes, I have had many successful sales over the years with Etsy... took a break for a few years and have recently returned with different- but what should be a very sellable - products,- I offer good prices and deals, and yes, I know how to make a HUGE difference using KEYWORD Tags effectively... yet every day I watch my statistics - ON ETSY- to see how I am the one bringing A LOT more people to Etsy than Etsy is in presenting my items to its own followers. I have a newly launched website where I have done absolutely no marketing, beyond Pinterest, and it brings in more than 20 x the number of visitors than my Etsy shop does on a daily basis- and with many of MY viewers going to my Etsy shop from my website links.
I also once watched Ebay go from being something really good - for sellers and buyers alike - then turn into being nothing but but the epitome of corporate greed in how they treated the little people that once made them into what they ended up growing to be, Etsy, in my experience, has proven to be following the same shameful path. Even if a person wants to try something different like Pinterest guess who is there trying to gain control of the space and purchasing options for viewers there too...Etsy! I guess that is how they go about making all those paid for ads that Etsy sellers get desperate enough to use more effective??? Just how big is too big???? Etsy is NOW using its hardworking sellers in a pathetic way... Hell, after paying them 30 % of my profits and I can't even do something as simple as move my shop's items around in once they are in their specific sections- which is a pretty basic task to do on many sites... maybe Etsy should ask Pinterest how to go about doing it. DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST PEOPLE and stop feeding the UGLY GREED!

I have a question: Etsy handbook has the information that there is no need to use the same keywords over and over again in tags, description, attributes, title etc..... I’m confused.... could you help with that?
And also about the price if it to make higher price how to compete? If the buyer sees similar product next to my listing for the same or lower price (experienced seller)
What I have learnt people online search for cheap.... totally confused ))
I hope you will have time to make a comment, I would be happy. Have an amazing day!

I always look for what's on sale. When I see I can save 20% on something or the price has been slashed I get excited. The only piece of art I ever bought was when an artist I really love was selling prints for whatever prise we named and he promised to honor it. I really only had $10 but I felt bad asking for something so nice for so cheap so I offered $20 and that's what he sold it to me for. I guess I'm not like most people. I'm always looking for inexpensive stuff and a deal. If I can't afford it I can't buy it.

I wish the YouTube reviewers would address this.
millana (1 month ago)
I have noticed that the people who review Etsy on YouTube do know respond to people in the comment section. After all the negative Etsy reviews on the internet, I feel very suspicious of them. I have bought on Etsy 4 times and have had no problems. I decided I wanted to open a store and then went looking for reviews, there were a ton of negative with very little positive.
Southern Charm Wreaths (1 month ago)
millana I can not speak for others but it’s how I started and grew my business to multiple six figures. By biz has shifted more now to teaching how to sell various products online instead of making and shipping wreaths like I used too but there are a lot of six figure earners on Etsy. If you set up your shop correctly, use keywords buyers look for and have a full shop with variety of items to sell, you’ll be successful. Good luck and blessings to you and your biz endeavors.

You have some good advise, but I'm not sure if your sales in your shop back it up. In no way am I trying to disparage you...maybe your Etsy shop is a part time thing, but since your shop opened in 2009 until now (Dec 2018) you only have 1730 sales...which is not a lot in that time frame. I suggest people do lots of research on their own on Etsy's site itself. There is a lot of help on the site and from the community. I have 3 shops and I'm thinking about starting a channel to help beginners also.

Your info was very good and very interesting. I've had a shop since Nov 2012. A couple good friends helped me set up and start my shop. My shop is listed as Vickiescrafts,,,which that's the name I've used for over 30 years.
Anyway I'm from Tyner Ky.,,and my name is spelled with an ie on the end. I'm not exactly sure what I might be doing wrong could be a number of things I guess. But I'm just a small seller. By that I mean it's only me no one working under me. I will take into consideration all your great advice and tips. If you happen to have time to visit my shop then maybe u can give me some first hand advice. I'm not using all the pictures. But I will start doing that with my new listings.
I know I'm not listing often enough. I should stop listing 8 items at one time and start listing 1 a day. Multiples is probably another thing I need to do more often too when I can. Anyway thank you for taking the time to try to help other Etsy shop owners.

You were talking about "one of a kind" items. I can reprint my photos, remake the piggy banks, remake the handwarmers and can remake and customize the baby cradles. However, my Steampunk jewelry, my beaded jewelry designs and the earring designs are all one of a kind designs. My store statement is "Unique Designs for the Uncommon Soul" There are several photographs that are numbered as well and when they get to the number specified, I will close those out. I understand about the key words better now and will have to work on that. Could you tell me if there ever is a time where a person can have too many items in their shop? I have been on Etsy now for a long time. I actually started in 2008 after I tried to make my own website and couldn't get anyone to see it. I have only made 65 sales total. Would you be willing to look at my shop and just tell me if I have too much on it or if it is confusing to people?? My shop name is under "freedancer" and you can get to it by etsy.com/shop/freedancer. The name of my business is Jewelry Designs by Pamela. It lists on Google search as Jewelry Designs by Pamela by freedancer on etsy. I have some sections on my site which state "Everything $10.00" and "Bargin Basement" in which I put things that haven't moved for a long time. Is that a good thing or a bad thing to do? My Steampunk is very complex so I charge alot for it. Several people think I should just pick two categories and use them only. What are your thoughts on this? Should my cover photo be of a jewelry nature?? I have a recent photo of the items that won ribbons at the State Fair. Would that be a better cover photo? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. firstname.lastname@example.org is my email. Thank you.

This video was very helpful and I have a lot of work to do to my ETSY shops. My question is: is there a way to make changes to multiple items at one time other than using the “Quick Edit” tab? I have over 800 items in Dorysfindings and I need to make keyword changes and description changes in almost every one of my listings. But as you know it takes lots of time to change each one individually. I have over 600 more/new items to add to my shop and I’m trying to get them added. I do use the “quick edit” to make multiple changes but thats still one at a time. Is there an easier way to make these changes to multiple items at the same time?? All of my stats have dropped this year. Some have dropped 50% or more and I’m in panic mode right now. Please help!!
Business Minded Mom (1 month ago)
Ask the Community on the left side bar about the quick edit. I think you can do it if it is literally the same thing you are changing for all of the items. I'm going to be starting my youtube channel this week and I will be discussing lots of things like this and stats and social media, etc. Not sure why this lady doesn;t answer all the questions people have on this video. I will be answering mine.

Mary Cheney (3 months ago)
You must have been a motivational speaker in your earlier life! Yikes! Ok, so I just found your site today and both subscribed and hit the notification bell, yay. So, I have several plastic tubs of handmade jewelry, little crystal and/or wire animals, sock snowmen, Swarovski rosaries, just all sorts of items I've made but never attempted to sell because I didn't know where to start. I'm still somewhat confused about the billing part of it and whether to list as much of it as I can to get the ball rolling, or list only one item at a time, daily? That advice didn't make sense to me, if you could explain that again, please.
Lastly, you must be very busy and it's difficult to find the time to respond to your listeners, but I read quite a few good questions below that writers wrote in, but no response. Maybe those questions can be addressed in your next video? Thanks so much for the ideas you gave us just now!

Lillian Antoci (3 months ago)
I think your advice on pricing is insulting! How can you say low means less quality and less value? That higher price means that the shop owner knows what they are doing, I disagree with you 100%. I make items and sell on Etsy and I take great pride in my work. I use quality fabric and take time to make sure my product is of the best quality I can offer. Just because it is low in price does not mean it is an inferior product. Sometimes the high cost of shipping is a factor that turns buyers away.
Lillian Antoci (3 months ago)
I watched your video and I think some of your tips are not correct. Most buyers do not narrow down what they want. For example, if they wanted a Christmas stocking, they would enter Christmas Stocking. They will not enter Christmas stocking for the mantel. If they enter Christmas stocking they have over 1800 items whereas if they entered Christmas Stocking for the mantel they will only have 2 options. I tried it. My stocking would be found in the large Christmas stocking but not n Christmas Stocking for the mantel which means my stockings will never be seen by buyers, Keywords don't always don't work.
