This Green Tech is Bringing Life Back to the Sea

7821 ratings | 177224 views
Concrete is vital for protecting our coastlines - but it comes at a huge environmental cost. An Israeli startup has found a way to make concrete sea defences that get stronger over time, while encouraging life to thrive.

Carbon dioxide plays an important part in vital plant and animal process, such as photosynthesis and respiration. These processes will be briefly explained here. Green plants convert carbon dioxide and water into food compounds, such as glucose, and oxygen. This process is called photosynthesis.
PoeticSonic (1 month ago)
Of course they wouldn't make the concrete an open source on how to make it..... profit is more important than marine like I guess.

Simply fantastic. This should be in all coastal building codes as a requirement. Ive seen enough.

why can’t we just accept we are the apex species, keep the animals and plants we need for food them let the rest play survival of he fittest.
Florin Adrian (1 month ago)
The last part about CO2 is bullshit. The cement industry is not contributing so much CO2 to the air because the gas is leaking out of concrete but due to emissions during the energy intensive cement manufacturing process. And the CO2 fixed by the slim layer of life is really negligible compare to that. I am also concerned about what it's said earlier in the video, about the cement being isolated from the water in econcrete. Doesn't it make it less biodegradable?

Explain coral living in spots around Miami canals that we didnt think it would live in. Coral guys have hunted some down for breeding. So you have a "secret sauce" that you keep to yourself and probably price it expensive. Yet wont spread the info to allow for a cheaper product... Yah really "green" and "thoughtful" for humanities future. These ideas need to be open source....

The sun and the Stars astrologically determine the cycles of the Earth's temperature, then in response the Earth releases more of its carbon dioxide locked up in Frozen land, and Frozen seafloor. Humans only have two to 3% of an influence on CO2. Global climate change is a natural cycle, Global pollution is man-made, and is our problem. 🌝

Around the US, the breakwaters do not have clear waters (because the water is all polluted). The demarcation line of coastal to ocean water was impressive and apparent! It’s great to see this company is trying to help save our breakwater waters.

This shows that yes we can save our planet. And it would be alot easier than going to mars, terraforming it, then trashing that planet too. I would much rather put our time and effort into earth aka home.

This is almost at the level of selling "raw water" or "juicer bags." Have you worked with concrete in the ocean before? Marine life will grow on anything and everything they can, usually on concrete with a secret formula or not.
Lord OdyZeus (1 month ago)
Indeed, but i think that what they want to do is to attract life to the coast to repopulate or something

Climate change is natural af do y’all forget earth used to be like mercury a few billions years ago? Whats unnatural is the rate of change and it’s our planet so we can do whatever we want even we go extinct so what?? It’s not like we can escape the death of the universe in a few quintillion years

If the intent is to heal the environment, why is it a "secret sauce?" I love the idea but if it only show up where ECOncrete is contracted, the world will never see it, nothing more than an amazing possibility.

@Riesenfriese I honestly think you most the essence of what I'm saying, and I'm really not interested in some fruitless YT squabble. So peace.
Riesenfriese (1 month ago)
@Dave A. Richards And you got their entire marketing plan out of the words "secret sauce"?
Dave A. Richards (1 month ago)
@Riesenfriese I'm a scientist, I know the cost of research, I know the pain and demands and then the pressure of getting funding to see your work useful in real life and not end up in some journal on a university library shelf or a "did you know" on some inaccurate Instagram page. At the same time selling rights to use the tech isn't an unrealistic and unprofitable option either. The aim of their work is to help the environment and if only they have it while the rest of the world continues to use outdated tech then do you think a government of a developing nation will uproot their multibillion coastlines just to update it with the latest tech? Simply changing their marketing strategy can change the world man.

Its an interesting project. But as a civil enginnering structure like break water, is this material "strong" enough ?
dan choen (2 months ago)
They said it pretty much the same as concrete but it also gets stronger over time
Dadson worldwide (2 months ago)
Id like to city population limits wgen we sprawl out it provides for a stronger middle class and stretigically having a decent size city every 3 hr drive allows us tp blend into nature rather than smother it out.

morne marais (2 months ago)
I love it well done!
Captain Chokdee (2 months ago)
Sorry I’m far from convinced. If the armour rock used in a structure is sourced from the same region it is used in it stands to reason that that THAT rock is best suited for the local environment regardless of whether the source is above or below the waterline & visa versa, so why do you want to substitute that with concrete in the first place? Every marine based structure that I have seen done this way has an abundance of marine life present in no time at all. A waste of talent money & time I fear?
326656 (2 months ago)
Fantastic news
HAIDEN Music (2 months ago)
3:51 When she said that the growth of the organisms on the rocks creates a layer of defence for the concrete that makes it last longer in water I thought, ok, now that's the main reasons why they are investing on it. The eco stuff is all a very nice lucky consequence. Once again Nature teaches us something we were utterly ignorant of.

Israel has nothing to do with this. It was private Israeli citizens who want to help the world, not the evil government who wants the world to burn except for Israel.

@Abdulaahi Adam exactly, thieves rather spend money on digging tunnels to kill steal and destroy, rather than using money to help their own people, let alone the rest of the world.
