Soldier Meets Son for First Time: Families Welcome Home Troops

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) It is a Valentine's Day many military families will never forget. The Alabama National Guard along with family and friends welcomed home the Soldiers of the 226th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade at the Fort Whiting Alabama National Guard. About 190 soldiers were deployed in April of 2013 as part of the Operation Enduring Freedom. ‚“I couldn't sleep. I was so excited,‚ said Lily Anderson. Families waited for nearly two and a half hours for the Alabama National Guard to ‚“hand over‚ their daddies. The troops were away for almost a year. ‚“So this is the first holiday they've been able to have with us in the past year. It‚„s really a special day,‚ said Suzanne Lowery. Lowery has been raising her three daughters by herself while her husband was deployed. ‚“We were not trying for a baby at all so he was our surprise,‚ said Lowery. Four week old Timothy Isaac has waited his entire life to meet his father. His mother said, ‚“Valentine‚„s Day is about love, and what a better way to show love then meet your baby for the 1st time.‚ As others patiently waited inside, the Lowery family greeted Sgt. Timothy Lowery as he came right off the bus. It is where he laid eyes for the first time on his first son. ‚“It's good. It's hard to describe. So it's good,‚ said Sgt. Lowery. His wife said, ‚“It‚„s nice to see him, and it‚„s good to know he's back. It's really good.‚ It is a Valentine‚„s Day none of the families will ever forget, especially Suzanne and her three daughters. ‚“I'll always remember this,‚ said Amy Lowery. ‚“I love him so much. He could have come on any other day he'd still be my valentine.‚ The soldiers of the 226th provided base management operations for multiple base camps in Kabul, police training for police districts of Kabul, and other assistance.

Aneke de koker (2 years ago)
If hes been gone for a year, and the baby is 4 weeks (1 month) old. And she had a full term pregnancy, then the baby isnt his. Because she got pregnant when he had been gone for 2 months.
Ranjini Sengupta (1 year ago)
Aneke de koker what a sick minded person u are. You need treatment. He is 11 months old not 1 month!!!

Military career vs. seeing my children grow up? Not even close...I'd get a new job. It's not like the military pays well anyway.
Annabelle James (11 months ago)
It's not a "vs" type situation. It's a career a dream job for most including my most. He's currently in Iraq while im 8 months pregnant it doesn't make me think he loves me any less. Depending on your rank it does pay well. Everybody has to work in life and sacrifices have to be made.

It's not always about the money
Andy Cap (2 years ago)
Without those willing to serve in the military you would have the choice !
Kim Glass (2 years ago)
It depends what you do within the military. Officers will get paid alot more than your basic squadie. You will also get paid more while posted overseas than you will on home base. Also its not all about the money. Alot do it because their fathers did, and his father and so on. Its about the pride and honour. I wanted to join the army when i was a teenager, and it wasnt because of the wage!
dare devil (3 years ago)
So sad to think that they have to stay away from their families. They dont even see the birth of their kids(not all of them). I wish that every soldiers on earth are always safe and can go home to their families alive.
Beeen Jewpiro (3 months ago)
No one is forcing them to stay away from families. They made the decision to leave and It would be the best for everyone if The US stayed out of other countries.

this is very touching from the human angle but if they hadn't gone to Afghanistan to "fight for America's freedom" they wouldn't have to suffer the agony of being separated from their loved ones. that stupid freedom keeps running away to the middle east
