this guy is driving me NUTS with his "(ki)-LOM-iters crap. The word is Kilo-meter! How can one be so dim? It comes from the simple breakdown of "kilo" (meaning 1000 as in kilogram (kilogramm) which = 1000 grams and meter, i.e. 1000 meters, kilometer. That's it.

The Earth's radius (r) is 6371 km or 3959 miles, based on numbers from Wikipedia, which gives a circumference (c)of c = 2 * π * r = 40 030 km We wish to find the height (h) which is the drop in curvature over the distance (d) Using the circumference we find that 1 kilometer has the angle 360° / 40 030 km = 0.009°. The angle (a) is then a = 0.009° * distance (d) The derived formula h = r * (1 - cos a) is accurate for any distance (d)

Bridge follows the topography of the level flat earth model of level water.  isn’t it amazing this bridge defies the globe earth spherical shape of the NASA Lies? The calculation formulae would dictate the water level curvature on a globe would make the bridge invisible at half way Yet you can stand on either side and see it with good clear weather visibility and a Ninon 900 camera. The bridge visibility is NOT under curvature sphere blocked view. Ho hummm.

A 55 km ocean bridge/tunnel built for $15 billion dollars. In Sydney (Australia), our incompetent state government spent $AU 2.96 billion (almost $US 2 billion) on a 12 km tram line.

About 10 years ago I crossed the Confederation bridge in Eastern Canada between the provinces of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, and at nearly 13 km long I thought it was impressive, and it is. But in comparison to this Chinese bridge, it’s a little bland lego piece only.

This bridge could have also had a connection with Shenzhen, but it didn't due to Hong Kong's selfish objection (They regard Shenzhen as a competitor, not a collaborator). The project's delay was caused by Hong Kong and, ironically, all the problems are in the part of Hong Kong although it has a much shorter segment of the bridge.

Reminds me of an old comic book story where Superman built a transatlantic bridge linking New York and London. He included rest stops, hotels, and gas stations periodically on the bridge itself. The idea fascinated me even though it seemed far-fetched to me even as a kid. So I'm very surprised to see something similar having been built in real life.

took the bus from Macau to Hong Kong and I was surprised how little traffic. I'm not sure about the economics. Of course in China they can build fast, they don't have to deal with stupid environmentalists. In 1943 the American Army Corps of Engineers built the 2458 km Alaska highway through raw wilderness in 8 months and 14 days.

What happenes if there is a car crash, how long is the response time? Are there locations that emergency helicopters can land at on the bridge if needed? Is there a toll cost to cross the bridge excluding the regional permits? These are the questions that i think should have been posed in the video.

The funny thing is that no-one even uses the bridge.
郝文彬 (2 months ago)
@Joshua Scrivner Just read some reviews about the bridge. The switch sides thing is managed by the design: one side will cross over the other side in the middle of the bridge so when you get down the bridge you have already switched sides. Commuters usually take bus rather than drive. So I think the checkpoints, fee, currency don't matter to them. This makes sense because most people use public transportation in China, so do I in Shanghai because it is much easier and cheaper than driving. There are more than 15 subway routes under Shanghai, and even more are under construction. Car license plate in Shanghai worth more than 10,000 US Dollar and you have to win a lottery like process to have the chance to purchase it. I guess it is all the same in HK...
郝文彬 (2 months ago)
@Joshua Scrivner I don't think the driving side and currency issues are much of concerns They are minor. Come on man...it's just switching sides...I can drive in China and US, I can also drive in Japan fine. And the checkpoints and the currency, I'm not so sure about that. But because many cars are licensed for using the bridge, I doubt those checkpoints are really making things too hard. It' must be all automatic for licensed car just like those highways we have around Shanghai, Jiangsu 10 years ago. Cars just need to stop for a few seconds to scan and go. And come on man... it has been decades people traveling among those places. I can use US dollar in Shanghai fine with Alipay, but HKD not fine? Seriously, I can't image the administration is that stupid to screw this up... But again, to be honest, I don't really know about this. It's all base on my past experience in China. The political turmoil there I think it would be temporary. This can be another topic we can talk if you want. And sorry I don't really understand what you mean "red tape of course". If you refer the type of Soviet alike communism red influence spread, it is total BS. It's 21st century, nobody even in China and Russia think that can work. The red thing was the regime's fundamental ideology which it has to be embraced but not really fully applied.
Joshua Scrivner (2 months ago)
郝文彬 Lol, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the bridge is a waste. Just that it’s less useful than it could be because the people in Hong Kong and Macau still have switch sides of the road twice if they want to go from Hong Kong to Macau. Not to mention the fact that you have two border check and tolls that you have to pay in RMB instead of Hong Kong dollars. With all that political complexity and red tape of course the bridge will be less used than it could be.
郝文彬 (2 months ago)
@Joshua Scrivner People use it everyday. Before this, Mainland China and Hong Kong used to travel to Macau through only air and ferries. It is time-consuming and expensive. The passes between Mainland and HK are crowded and far from populated areas in HK. Through this bridge, it is driveable to travel among them. Macau people can save much time to commute between Macau and HK/mainland China. HK is directly connected with other mainland cities. And people can expect more highway routes to be built on this basic for connecting HK Macau with even more mainland cities. This bridge delivers new shipping routes, new commute options, new housing opportunities, and a new tourism place of interest. And it will serve people for decades long. Isn't this the right way how the government is supposed to use the tax money?
Joshua Scrivner (2 months ago)
郝文彬 Maybe you’re right and the information that I have is wrong. Please re-educate me...
