5 Super Sized Drones You Can Ride - 2016 - Piloted drone

8511 ratings | 1894269 views
Over the past few years, some people have taken drones from small almost toy devices for carrying cameras to mini aircraft that are capable carrying a single person. Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/curiousdroid Paypal.me : https://www.paypal.me/curiousdroid You can now translate this and other curious droid videos, see my video about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLPVgIytKyg EHang 184 The Ehang 184 created a huge buzz when it was debuted at CES 2016. They claim it is the world's first fully autonomous helicopter drone. The Ehang 184 is a 200Kg, eight-rotor aircraft which the company claims it is able to lift a single 100kg person, up 500 metres into the air and fly them at up to 100Kmph to any point on Google Maps, avoiding objects automatically and safely handling take-off and landing all without the need for any piloting skills from the person being carried. The range is as far as it could fly with the 23 minutes of flight time afforded by the batteries which a recharge time of 2 hours. Ehang is keen to point out that in the event of the drone experiencing problems, human pilots housed in a custom built "command centres" will be able to take over and guide you to safety. The best part is you can use them on water !!

The reason portable electrical systems are not more widely used for high-performance vehicles is because the batteries they use contain highly poisonous chemicals and their production leaves several times their weight in hazardous waste that will not naturally decompose. Anyone who drives an electric car or touts their lesser 'carbon footprint' is completely and utterly full of shit.
Ken Callow (2 months ago)
Very cool stuff... But too fucking expensive and not very inefficient!
zapfanzapfan (2 months ago)
Cool! Maybe do an update on if any of these has come to market yet or if they are still all prototypes.

and why not show Actual Drones( No Pilot) remote controlled, Lifting 100 lbs up 50 ft over a Tree or a WALL? Like Trump Wall? Hello! They will be avaialbe in next 3-5 yrs and make "The US Wall" Useless.. Mexicans will be charging $100 US to Lift someone up and over the wall .. Thus Don't waste the Billions on a Wall but on a Lazer to shoot the Drones down, electronically and automatically..

I will never be jet-man but dang, it is so cool that some one is!

What we need is this, plus combat. Please.

No military application no future for the vehicle. If you can't weaponize it then no one will care.

Hello, what did you use motors and regulators? What size propellers? Which used flight controller? What is the capacity of the battery and how many cans?

In the post-apocalyptic future, those who use the desert drone with fuel are going to be the uncivilized and poor ... but very strong.

https://imgur.com/gallery/Hn0Vp I’m working on building this design. It will far exceed the forward airspeed of any human scale drone.
Dizzy TV (4 months ago)
stop it with the electrics - you need to put a gas engine on that for the weight to power equivalent and get much more lift and go.

If Paul Shillito's hard work, quality animation, deep research, and amazing interviews aren't enough to make you give to his patreon page....his over the top eye blasting shirt deserves the donation at least. REPLY

The air effects unit NEEDS a processor! IF it is doable without one? THINK how foolproof it will be WITH ONE!
Dougie Quick (5 months ago)
BTW you just KNOW that all these units that have "limited altitude"? are going to be TOTALLY hackable!
Jmichael Isbell (5 months ago)
thank you, very interesting
Konstruktivist Neo (5 months ago)
Safety hazard!!! You need to protect the pilot and those on the ground. TOO MANY exposed blades rotating at supersonic speed, if one splinters off, it is a KNIFE flying through the air: BAD, BAD, idea; TERRIBLE accident waiting to happen.

This. Once it's piloted it's not a drone.

Wolfie Productions (6 months ago)
most of these have been cancelled for safety purposes. we are still a long way off
Jim Fogarty (6 months ago)
Although I applaud the efforts here, I can tell you all with some conviction that the FAA will not allow these multiple spinning propeller systems unless they are shrouded… so your current weight vs power considerations are off by a good deal, as well as your propeller thrust/size calcs. I’m not going to discuss stopping… and those of you who are familiar with this technology know why.
Lyndon Bushnell (6 months ago)
can these be run by nuclear power? if so the trips would be endless without charging
Sivasanth Mundeth (6 months ago)
By definition, if it carries a man or it is driven inside by it, it is not a drone , it will be any other aircraft or hovercraft
Merple Turple (6 months ago)
Drones are autonomous meaning that these are just hover bikes etc
archtroll (7 months ago)
that quadro UAS guy needs some fucking goggles .. hahaha
Jimmy Jack (7 months ago)
Why make them electric? Battery technology is shit.
Lensflare Deviant (5 months ago)
For that very reason. We need better battery tech and we need more than just cars to drive the demand.

By definition, a drone does not have a human occupant. These might be ultralights, but they're not drones.
mvelasquez72 (8 months ago)
Hey, does any of these super sized drones use a flight controller as a flight assistant or solo flight controller?
MunTre123 (8 months ago)
Only problem I can see is the battery, we really don't have batteries with enough capacity to power drones of this size for longer than 15 to around an hour. The technology is there, but not a good enough powersource
Alex Toski (8 months ago)
welcome to the world of TOMORROW!!!

i'd still prefer an MX-5 RF... /hides lol... one day at least!
bob smith (9 months ago)
why this word "drone" over and over, they are quad copters, or just HELICOPTERS, things that have been around almost as long as planes have. None of this is new
Siminthesky (9 months ago)
easy to shoot down these flyers. it will be busy in the air

morskojvolk (9 months ago)
By definition, it's not a "drone" if the person riding it is piloting it. It's just an aircraft.
Rich Beal (8 months ago)
why is that russian drone called a scorpion? they don't fly

LOL, jerk! ;-P

Operative Ben (9 months ago)
no matter what a drone is still technically a manned vehicle untill advanced moral AI's are developed since on the other side of that reaper bombing the crap out of innocent civilians there is a pilot flying it remotely

Блядь Россия (10 months ago)
Thanks for the shitpost, asshole. There's a thing called an airplane that's been around for a century with this capability. You may want to look that up.
Pass The Butter Robot (11 months ago)
For these to become truly world-changing we're gonna need better batteries than we have currently (no pun intended). Lighter & with a greater charge capacity. It'll come though.
Mr Naugles (11 months ago)
Drone Driving License? . . . or are they too unstable to trust a person to drive?
Johnathan Stephenson (11 months ago)
hate to tell you but if it's got a pilot it's an ultra light aircraft not a drone also illegal in the USA if you're not a licensed pilot taking off from a runway with TSA air clearance literally the law says that if it leaves the ground under its own power then its an aircraft this is why we don't have flying cars
Johnathan Stephenson (11 months ago)
2:43 and here you see someone breaking the law by flying an aircraft in the us without FFA clearance and not from a certified airport

I'm sure you could've found a more suitable place for testing the machine. Next to a utility pole, really? :D
GameCAB (1 year ago)
Excuse me for pointing out the obvious, but if you're riding on it then it's not a drone is it ?
sn3192 (1 year ago)
flying that volocopter must be fun! like flying in a computer game!
sn3192 (1 year ago)
aero x is kinda cool. though not really a flying vehicle. reminds me of all those hover vehicles in dragonball
Hanaka (1 year ago)
so the first drone cost 100k and can fly 25 min and 100km/h thats 1.6km/m witch is 40 km in 25 min ? thats pritty fast but 40km or 24miles. thats not werry far.
Pat Eagleplace (1 year ago)
There is a big difference between drones and hovercraft!
rbaleksandar (1 year ago)
As if having a parachute at 500m will help when that drone leaves your ass in mid-air...According to the US Parachute Association you get a minimum altitude of 2000ft (approx. 61t0m) for experienced sky divers, 2500ft (approx. 760m) for less experienced sky divers and 5500ft (approx. 1.7km) for training jumps).
Lone Wolf (1 year ago)
thank you for calling them oversized drones and not hoverboards
PunOne (1 year ago)
0:50 Anybody else bothered that this guy is doing a 180 in the cramped cockpit when he could've easily went in right side up
Bruce Wilds (1 year ago)
We should also note that technology is quickly blurring the line between drones and robots at the same time that the killing power of these machines is being ramped up by the military. The article below is a reminder that what they have planned is not limited to what we have seen.http://brucewilds.blogspot.com/2013/11/drones-killer-robots-and-ugly.htm...

Nexfero (1 year ago)
The Aero-X looks the most promising and at a price is 80k is very affordable for a fun toy, Gasoline engines are the future of Drones. All Drones needs Wankel engines because more emission more better.

I know..I know. .its not a drone enough already! !

My name... is michael caine. She was only 17 years old!
johnlocke445 (1 year ago)
The Volocopter is not emissions free. The emissions will be created and released by the power company when the Volocopter is being charged. I don't know why people can't understand this fact?
