89 ratings | 8396 views
Tesla is taking orders for its Model 3 electric sedans in the U.S. and Canada. Customers have to make a $2,500 deposit up front, which goes toward the overall cost of the car. Previously, would-be Model 3 owners put down a $1,000 "reservation" deposit to secure a place in line. » Subscribe to CNBC: http://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. looks like the customers who put down $1000 for the $35,000 model are screwed. You can fix it by getting a refund.

Why does the media make a big deal about 2500 deposit...all car manufacturers want a deposit to make sure u r serious about buying car...Chevy wanted 3500..

What is the problem? You are paying it towards your own car. And if you are buying a Tesla, you are not broke

So basically customers are financing the company. Smart from tesla, extremely dumb from customers.
Mike Jeffery (2 months ago)
Regardless, funaicha is right. People will give $2,500 now and could wait quite a while. 5k cars a week isn't very much and with a backlog of 400k still to go, who knows. It's a way for Tesla to get money for nothing. That being said, I was a day 1 reservation holder and now have an order for the AWD.

This is how this company always has been since the first roadster, up to this day. And same with the Model Y, and whatever comes after it. Can't always do the base model right away. They aren't Detroit. And they will be by the end of the year/ 1st qtr of next year. The nerd/geek in me always gets mad every time i see a Yahell comment. LOL.

As much as I admire the Tesla cars that I can't really afford, the price doubles after upselling. Elon is running a nice pyramid scheme there. Getting millions of dollars as a free loan from the people who plunked down $1,000 to get a 35,000 Model 3 then saying, oops! you have to put down an additional 2,500 bucks and your Model 3 won't cost nearly 35K.
