sooo….. these people really paid to listen to the audience perform the song badly.  on a redeeming note, at least it got to the point of being comical after awhile.  surprised anyone even bothered to play instruments.

One of the best rock ballads ever. If you doubt it, play it for your significant other when you are in the mood and see what happens. It's alright if you love. It's alright if you don't. Breakdown. Thomas Earl Petty one of the coolest humans to walk the earth. We miss you!

This is what I got figured out. what is he saying? "You can have it if you want it baby, anyway you want to do it, baby, if you want to leave you just leave, you go out you take everything I got baby, you can have the car, you can have all my money you can have all my furniture too you can have anything you want to have baby. You just go out and spend it right now. You know I can take this, I’m taking this pretty well, I think you know, I can handle, I feed myself I’m gonna be okay baby, this is an adult situation you know……I can have that I can have this you know …… if you want to go you just go, this your life, I got my life… everything is gonna be ALLLLLRRIIGGGHTTTT!

This song was released as the debut single from the Heartbreakers' 1976 debut, but it got little attention on its initial release. It was not until around the time their follow-up LP, You're Gonna Get It!, was released, as well as when "Anything That's Rock 'n Roll" had dented the British charts, that Tom Petty finally got his due on the radio in his native US; when re-released, "Breakdown" made #40 US in 1978 and was also featured in the soundtrack to that year's movie, FM.

@Factotum75 it's so weird when I'm feeling down or hurting. Turn on the radio and within 5 songs a Petty song comes on!
Factotum75 (29 days ago)
I'm crying because I had seriously forgotten that he died until just now. I had to look it up. It's crazy how mind works. I have an excellent memory. I guess I just don't want to realize it and remember. Nevertheless, and as this proves, his music is eternal.

When I was a kid before I could drive, I used to sing this when I would walk girls home after dark. I would just kinda be singing to myself out loud and every time the girls would say they would if I wanted them to. Oh yeah I've always loved this song.

When I heard the news on the radio I honestly fell and cried....just like stevie back in 90 I think it was....I dropped then too...I'm not kidding, it hurt so much. I was at work and they almost fired me because they couldn't understand why some fucking musician could mean so much to anyone...fuck them, enjoy the fucking music in the elevator and continue to disappoint your wife..

This is a break down in the truest sense, a breaking down of the invisible wall separating the artist from his fans. We need this more than ever before. Tom Petty's passing has affected all of us, so for him and his memory, it's all right. Break down. Give it to him...one more time.

Sir God Petty's star is located in front of the Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard. Home turf to me but what's a young boy supposed to do? Break down, everyone does it around there, no shame.
