There was an episode of "HoneyI Shrunk the Kids" that involved the cast being shrunken and mistaken for McDonalds Happy Meal toys. Heavy product placement. It was omitted from future DVD releases.

@C. H. The problem is that he ends most of the clauses in his sentences as though they are all self-contained sentences themselves. Quick example: 7:16 "However, due to the unprecedented requests for a live performance. The creator of the show persuaded the band's manager to ask the group to reconsider just using another prerecorded clip." Although that all should be one sentence, he speaks it as though it's two (as delineated with the punctuation I provided).

Suggestion for another episode: The pilot and first three so-called "KTMA" episodes of MST3K. The short version is that they still exist but obviously won't be released to the public any more than episodes 4+ were. Those exist as poor transfers of poor home VHS recordings.

Honorable mentions... - American daytime soap operas fell victim to the practice of eposode erasure. Most notable prime example is Search for Tomorrow, which has at least a decade of lost or missing episodes. There was even a story about 1 episode where the main copy and back-up copy mysteriously disappeared, prompting a live episode to be broadcasted. Guiding Light having episodes from 60s and early 70s where picture quality was severely degraded despite good audio quality. - The Tonight Show, during Johnny Carson era has at least a decade of lost or missing episodes. Episodes that were erased and recorded over, with Carson's blessing. - News networks and local TV stations, a lot of them didn't maintain archives and/or discarded archived collections. Even the Library of Congress issued a rather scathing report on news organizations and local affiliates not realizing historic significance of their work. Those that managed to save any and all their film and videotape material donated them to colleges and organizations to be digitally remastered, archived, and preserved. - There was a very controversial episode of The Jenny Jones Show that didn't make it to air when a guest was murdered by another guest 3 days after its initial taping. Suspect serving a prison sentence for his crime, and the victim's family filed a wrongful death suit against the show.

My hope is somewhere, a copy of "Addams family Funhouse"(1973) survived. Butch Patrick played Pugsley, and it guest starred Jim Nabors.

I saw the Witch episode on Sesame Street. It was aired twice that day, once at noon and once at 5:30pm on PBS in Boston. If I remember correctly, she met several of the "street" characters (ie. not Ernie or Bert) and had a few quick interactions with them in between mini-segments as usual. The NASA data-tapes are likely at (believe it or not) the McDonald's (now defunct building) there. The business failed (amazingly, so few McDonald's fail) and is used as a tape-storage.

4:36 in 2011 episodes were recovered from a VHS signal that bounced off of an extraterrestrial object in space and made it back to earth. That same year 2 more videos were recovered from a private collection.

In addition to these few examples, it's relevant to point out that VERY little of local USA television broadcasting exists from the early years, starting in the late 1940s and early '50s. Most programs were broadcast live and were never filmed on 16mm movie film, or recorded on 2 inch videotape after it came into use in the late 1950s. So except for the published TV program listings and a few still photos, as seen here, you will never again see the local news, talk shows, dance shows, kids' shows, or any shows from the place where you grew up, especially if you're an old person now.

You might add to your search, Norman Lear's short lived soap, "All that Glitters".. big cult following.... All the males played the role of females and all the women played the role as men.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_That_Glitters_(TV_series)

I find it interesting that the similarly short-sighted policies of a major television network production company and a leading organization involved in space exploration resulted in the loss of priceless video footage of a classic science fiction series AND the loss of video footage of the most significant achievement in the history of science fact.

Another one to add to the list, is the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest, the only one that no longer exists. It was held in Copenhagen, Denmark. The TV studio had a fire a year or so later, which destroyed the master. While audio of the Contest is around, the only footage is around 30 secs of the winner's reprise that a German TV station has.

a lot of things going on today could have been prevented years ago in the nineties. but a lot of corporations focus on money. instead of good intelligent programming. we got Barney the dinosaur a dumb down incredibly stupid show. that was the best we could folks and got kept in the dark about things. networks have their dirty little secrets like so many others do. specially in Hollywood it's shallow. no longer about the talent. well a lot of us had just about enough. I remember when MTV use to be about music. now they have boring reality shows. the nineties burried the eighties music. there was such passion and life once. fans deserve the kind of programing they want to see. shows like Mr Wizards World, Where is Carmen Sandiago, Beakmans World, and others are not shown anymore. but I believe the eighties can live on it's up to all of us. " the wizdom of the ages it's lost." "no not lost were all a little wizer now." "but the matrix is empty." "It's up to all of us to fill it again with the wizom we accumulate from this moment on. autobots transform and roll."

Beatles footage of their performance was found last year and early this year, in Mexico, a woman had a box full of old film reels that she had bought at auction, and around 12 seconds was recovered. Following the announcement, further footage was found by someone who had film reels in their attic

I remember the Wicked Witch episode, because I watched Sesame Street everyday back then. I had not seen the Wizard Of Oz, so I thought she was just Oscar's friend because she was green, too.

I don't know if this fits into your narrative, but we erased stuff here in the U.S. as well. Johnny Carson was pissed when he found out that tapes from 1962 to 1972 were erased. The only reason some of them survived is that some were transferred onto film to be sent to the troops in vietnam, including the 3/6/69 telecast where dean martin and bob hope crash the show while johnny is interviewing george gobles.

IT'S GOOD NEWS FOR NUMBER 4. At the start of the year it was revealed that in Mexico an 11 second long home video clip of someone recording their T.V was discovered and on the T.V was The Beatles performing Paperback Writer which is from the missing Live Top of the Pops episode as you can see the stage they are on is the same as seen in the production photos for the live episode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TErVX3-xtro And even more good news a few month later, after seeing the news on the discovered Mexican clip, a man called David Chandler who was a teenager at the time looked through his tapes which he had and he discovered that he too had filmed the T.V during the live episode and recorded the missing performance along with other bands performing in the same episode as The Beatles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1A6O2FcIqM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In_iPlxopsk HOW FAB IS THAT??!!!!
