33 year FEDEX Captain here. After we bought Tigers the rules and authority was suppressed. Lucky we didn’t kill anyone

Nice job...thanks
John Smith (14 days ago)
I don’t know how we don’t kill each up there when everyone has to be on the same page every time ,down drafts cross winds and a plethora of other problems thanks for being great at what you do
Rod Powers (15 days ago)
SURVIVING ....THATS what matters...to hell with the plane...just buy another one and STFU FEDEX...you can afford it😁

The captain probably got tired of arguing with her LOL he was on his iPad switching hotels
NYG_DBONE 10 (19 days ago)
That’s why women don’t belong in the cockpit

Captain : keep it out of the grass 1st officer : I ll do my very best ( chuckles) The captain is a psychic he probably foresaw what her very best would be The captain knew he was training a poor airmanship officer so why did he not take action on short final? We cant blame the 1st officer 100%.

Poor thing thought she was flying for Southwest.
777jones (25 days ago)
The captain was too timid to take control because the FO was a woman and he would be criticized. He failed to stop the accident. More his fault than anything.
777jones (25 days ago)
A FedEx pilot unfamiliar with Memphis???
Richard Sleeve (25 days ago)
I'm guessing the line check was unsatisfactory. Normally FOs don't get line checks, except to finish their initial training. It could be they were new to that plane. Regardless, with 15k hours, they should have been able to handle it, and the captain should have been ready to step in. I'm a line check airman and I've had to jump in to prevent a hard landing. With how much the captain was coaching, I would expect that.

Any particular reason for not including "Sim" in your captions? It's very annoying!

Can you narrate, I read slow.. never can read fast enough. So I don’t view the magazine type video’s.
tall32guy (1 month ago)
They were both at least very professional and kind to each other, during the landing. :) I like seeing that; it always bugs me seeing pilots being abusive or hurtful to each other.

Jules never received her package and Fed Ex claimed that I had not sent it. I now realise what happened to it but given that it is now 17 years on I do not stand a chance of compensation. Fed Ex sucks.

The MD11 is a death trap. To save on fuel and hit target numbers promised to the airlines, the manufacturer shortened the tail by approximately 11 ft and other weight saving measures. In cross winds or gusty winds it can get away from one very quickly rocking left and right and it’s nasty bounce and flip problem. Can’t wait until they are all in the bone yard.

What was the Captain doing?
Bill Ellis (1 month ago)
With all the knowledge in the cockpit seems like a little lack of initiatives. Glad no one was severely injured. Pride mostly I imagine.
anonomous63 (2 months ago)
I think in your videos, there's too much airplane noise. It seems elevated, you may want to turn that down. Otherwise, I like the videos.
Noangeltosin (2 months ago)
Glad everyone ok but did the packages survive?
MrSupercar55 (2 months ago)
Ryanair take note.
billhou1 (2 months ago)
When pilots are involved in a crash (but survive), are they ever able to get a job back being a pilot? Just curious.
Dan Cooper (2 months ago)
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Take the crash of United Airlines Flight 232. The DC-10 center engine failed mid flight, and the aircraft lost all hydraulic control of the flight control surfaces. 111 dead, 185 survived, including all 4 pilots. All of whom eventually returned to flight duty. Not all crashes are due to pilot error, and nobody is going to hold a pilot accountable for an crash they didn't cause. Obviously, if they caused the crash due to recklessness or neglect, they most likely won't fly again. But there are several factors that can mitigate, "Pilot Error." If your training were insufficient, If ATC instructions were unclear, or you were otherwise given incomplete or incorrect information. There are lots of shades of grey there, and a pilot might be able to find an airline that will give them another chance. The biggest hurdle would be dealing with injuries. Physical as well as mental injuries.

This mad dog is well known for being extremely difficult to land. By definition that's a bad airplane.
Ira van den Heuvel (12 days ago)
That's only true on the internet. Reality is another story. It's well known in some circles that a lot of people who don't actually know it to be true will claim that MD-10 and 11s are extremely difficult to land and love to bash the aircraft in general. While those of us who actually know how they handle when landing and if it is a "bad" aircraft or not, we just shake our heads and snicker. Because there's nothing quite as funny as when someone thinks they know something that they don't.
Jim Cameron (2 months ago)
I think with a smidge of bondo that jet will fly like new.
Jim Cameron (2 months ago)
I love how the plane was escorted by X wing fighters. The force is strong in this one!

Should be able to detect overweight problem and dump enough fuel to compensate for problem ...

The thing I like most about these crash simulation videos is that there is never any loss of life because no one is ever on the planes.

In his Description box at the bottom it says it was a flight simulator It’s fake

I've never been in a FedEx cockpit, but when I worked at an airline, none of our DC-10s had glass cockpits. I know that the MD-11 has one.
Bwae (2 months ago)
Most if not all of FedEx's remaining DC-10 fleet have been converted to MD-10s, they have the same cockpit and avionics from the MD-11

1:17 The pilots receive the Memphis' "Autimatic" Terminal Information Service. Also not sure why the apostrophe on Memphis. I merely added the quotes.

section8usmc53 It’s Memphis’ because “Memphises” isn’t correct English. Good to see that you picked it up though....not a typo.

First officer was on her period. That a big factor so don't let female pilots land a plane when they're on their period unless she had her menopause.

Co Pilot has 15,000 hours and over speeds the landing into a head wind?? What a joke. This idiot should be fired.
David Shuff (3 months ago)
I'm not saying that there aren't some good female Pilots. But this is what happens when you push people through that aren't qualified just to meet a quota.
Peter Nicholsonu (3 months ago)
Graphics good but need basic input alteration. Near engine should always appear ‘larger’ than offside engine.
bigplameuk (3 months ago)
Fed Ex an equal opportunity employer.
J B (3 months ago)
The checklists and clearance were done too late in the approach and clearly distracted the pilot, who’s obviously overwhelmed and not a good multitasker. What became of her? Fired, loss of pilot’s license?
pedrosura (3 months ago)
Years ago, I was trying to get hired by a major airline. I remember Fedex told me that I needed a strong recommendation from a current Fedex pilot in good standing who I had flown with and could vouch for my flying skills. Of course I didn’t know anyone. So I was out. It seemed like a a policy to limit the available pilot pool. If you look at the accident history at the accident history at FedEx, it is shocking. It if was a passenger airline they would have been shutdown already. Glad to hear they have implemented changes and hopefully that will lead to safer operations.
