"Wild thing" was so well used in Major League with Ricky Vaugh (Charlie Sheen) entering the stadium. That song has been in so many movies!

"“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” finds its way in many movies too!

Emotionally manipulative. You nailed it. This is lazy film making that appeals to the lowest common denominator, like so many other things these days. Every one of these musical talents have an entire repertoire full of the same feel without the same damned song over and over again. You want the Spandau Ballet 80's feel? Try their song, Gold. How about a little Cutting Crew? You need a song for the character who leaves his overbearing woman? Piss Up A Rope by Ween. Sheesh. CCR has tons of songs that fit the mood as well as Bad Moon Risin. Do we have to do all the thinking for you overpaid Hollywood types? By the way, my plant is closing and I need a job. I'll be available to plan your soundtracks for an absolutely obscene amount of money. Call me.

It's little wonder that 'Waking on Sunshine", was a One Hit Wonder. Perhaps to high a praise for such a saccharin piece of fluff(please feel free to insert your own adjective e.g. "drek" ). But otherwise, me thinks "The Lady does protest to much." !
