UPS tests drone delivery of medicine in Massachusetts - TomoNews

95 ratings | 5661 views
CHILDREN’S ISLAND, MASSACHUSETTS — Package delivery company UPS partnered with drone-maker CyPhy Works to conduct a test delivery using a drone last Thursday. The drone used in the test delivery was CyPhy Works’ Persistent Aerial Reconnaissance and Communications system (PARC). It flew three miles over the Atlantic Ocean from Beverly, Massachusetts to Children’s Island, where it successfully delivered an asthma inhaler to a child at the camp. The PARC drone is battery-powered and equipped with night vision. It also features secure communications system, preventing information from being intercepted or disrupted. “Drone technology used in this way can save lives and deliver products and services to places that are difficult to reach by traditional transit infrastructures, ” Helen Greiner, the founder and chief technology officer of CyPhy Works said in a press release. Greiner told NBC49.com that the drones are not going to replace delivery trucks. The United States Federal Aviation Administration’s rules for commercial use of drones officially took effect last month, which include a number of restrictions on commercial drone operations. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Look I understand the interest in drone delivery based services, however, why do these companies keep wanting to start the service using the most surefire way to make it not only fail but become illegal. I mean, delivering drugs by unmanned drones? We have drug addicts who actually kill people including themselves to get their drugs any way possible. What do they thing will happen when drugs start flying at low speed and altitude overhead. Oh, and not only will drugs be flying overhead, but flying conveniently out of the way where people won't see you messing with the drones and it's items

i can imagine these drones buzzing around everywhere in the future
rickson50 (2 years ago)
hopefully not. I don't want constant buzzing noises everywhere. Maybe, if they aren't making noise or a danger

That'll be annoying

Looks like R2D2's cousin. I could see this being very useful to people in need of medical assistance by means of epi-pen or Glucose and such. Automated emergency drone service... wait did I say that out loud dammit there goes my million dollar idea!

great idea......but the bad idea the drone can tackle hurricane , whirlwind, nasty storm or nasty weather . I think not.

tomo is always reporting on a futuristic robotic world like its actually a good thing, we're already disconnected enough, what a elitist news outlet...race war mongering, political discourse pushing, showing foreign getting fucked up, sex with students and now they want you to work for them by suggesting story because they don't have enough black men being killed by WHITE police officers, this channel is obviously ran by jews

+whammo12 not if you row And the drone is fueled by electricity, which is fueled by unsustainable sources most of the time

Okay, the hacker community will have to figure out how to take control of drones to steal things. Or maybe drones will be the new clay pigeons to gun enthusiasts.

& also a new delivery service of narcotics which in itself would even put some levels of small time drug dealers out of business.. Then they would simply armor these drones with bullet proof material & firepower & even utilize them to make hits...
