My Friend Built A Million-Dollar Company: Here's How He Did It

5822 ratings | 105826 views
Today's video is a special one because unlike regular Business Casual videos, it covers a story that is still in progress. In fact, the story in this video is a personal one; today we'll go back to the earliest days of Business Casual to learn how I met an entrepreneur that was a great inspiration for starting this channel. Fran Villalba Segarra became one of my closest friends even before I had started Business Casual and while I was building this channel, he was laying the foundation for a company that today is valued at $4 million. This is the story of Internxt, a company developing decentralized software that was funded through a public cryptocurrency offering. This is a story that unlike most Behind the Business videos I am telling in present tense, not past. despite some "super intelligent" people decoding the "marketing for friend", i find this video the best. usually the stories here do inspire, but the business tactics used in those are old. this stories covers some really modern ideas and insights.

When i saw the word bitcoin i knew it was gonna be a fluze. From $20m to $3m just goes to show how this business only cares finding the next big coin. You can prolly get rich if you sell your business for what its worth at that time but not if u run it for 20 years. The whole tech business model is just not built for building intrinsic value, unless youre one of the big boys your company is pretty much worthless

Sal T Balsak (2 months ago)
So, your friend "built" his million dollar company by copying existing tech and getting a bunch of suckers to buy worthless tokens during the lead-up to the crypto bubble. ICOs are for companies looking to bilk unsavvy, get rich quick investors based on pure speculation, not actual value. His company is not worth $1, let alone $1,000,000. Be sure to make make a follow-up video in a year when this coin hits $0 like the 1000s of others before it which followed the same route. But hey, at least your friend made some quick $$$.. amiright? Unsubscribed.

Seems to me this wasn't how he built a million dollar company - just got a lot of funding. His actual company hasn't done anything and having a "beta waitlist" isn't that impressive. I'm not saying it isn't impressive how he was able to monetize - just saying it really isn't a viable company until it actually works.
施泓祥Viktor (1 month ago)
Yeah, his friend is a doer and has average entrepreneurial skills. However, if the company does not have cash flow, it's just a valuation hyped by ICO. Imo, a company that does not have a strong cash flow will fail eventually.

is it really fair to take the marketcap of their token as their company valuation? if we're going by that logic the company behind ethereum would be worth 45 billion right now. really dont think decentralized tokes should treated like a share in the company
Newsish (2 months ago)
Nope. An ICO for an alpha product does not constitute a "million-dollar company." Check back in when they're doing a million in revenue.

So he basically the real life Richard Hendrick from Silicon Valley and Internxt is the real life Pied Piper. You should ask him is he inspired his venture from the show. I'm curious.

AWS doesn't only support file storage. It includes a wide variety of Artificial Intelligence tools and an integrated environment of cloud computing.

If I was Fran I'd try to sell ASAP. Google is pushing into the cloud storage market even more with "Google One". All the big companies have products/services that work with their cloud storage options. The pricing only seems to match Google One. Any vulnerabilities in his software could potentially cimple his company in an instant and leave clients/hosts damaged. Overall wayy too much risk. As far as static hosting I know Google Cloud's Multi Regional storage option is $0.026/GB and personally I have spent $0.58, this month working on an unreleased project. I'm sure there's other options out there too.

It's an amazing idea and this story just reignited my soul. I don't know how this will end, but i think it'll end pretty well, i'm a developer myself and im definitely going to check out internxt.
Jack Mister (2 months ago)
Nice story. But we don't get a clue about HOW your friend did it, which is what we expect of the title. You just tell about the 2 moments he got funding (selling the first site then ICO) and that he hired developers. That's quite few information. It would have been interesting to see how a person not into computer science is able to create and expand a software company, while not understanding the underlying subject, hence not able to take sharp decisions about its product. This is the reason why so few business graduates creates startups/software companies even though they are more normally more prepared than software engineers to create and expand a business. A second, more informative video would be appreciated to go beyond the nice story ;)
