How about we add a quarter day to each year, since every year is a exactly 365.25 days? Problem solved!
Shanka DaWanka (17 days ago)
Okay, then how about we add one hour to January first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth?

It's not 8000 years. The Gregorian Calendar is off by 1 day every 3226 years. 1/(365.24250 - 365.24219) = 3225.8, where 365.24250 is the length of a year in the Gregorian Calendar and 365.24219 is the length of the Mean Tropical Year.

everyone heard of leap years this ONE day extra... wrap your head around this one...... work for a company that is open 7 days a week and not close for holidays this been a fast-food restaurant. this restaurant pays fortnightly... just out of the blue you got paid weekly then back to fortnightly... WHY "EXTRA WEEK this year"

This calendar doesn't just have exceptions, it has exceptions to its excpetions! And even those exceptions have exceptions! Except sometimes, though.

I uh, don't think seasons pass because of its relationship to its rotation around the sun but by the because the earth is off axis. Nice crack at research though. https://earthsky.org/earth/can-you-explain-why-earth-has-four-seasons
Senne Piens (4 months ago)
did you guys ever realize that because of the the same reason your birthday isn't always your birthday? like 2/4 years it will be off by a day, some really unfortunate people even have it off 3/4th of the time with 1/4th being 2 days off let me explain: I got born 20/04/2002 (long live the EU notation) around midnight (let's take 00:00 for easy math) so 2000 was a leap year then the calendar was "corrected" in 2001 we have -6 hours off (rounding it for everyone's sake) in 2002 we have -12 hours off (this is the year i got born this means that in "correct time" this would be 20/04 00:00 -12 hour = 19/04 12:00) in 2003 we can say that my birthday is 20/04 because all hours move back by an additional -6 hours (making -18 total) but the equivalent of my actual birthday would be 06:00 20/04 now 2004 is a new leap year so all hours get reverted to -0 this means that my birthday should actually be 19/04 at 12:00 than 2005 the time is -6 again so my birthday is again on the 19th at 18:00 and this just goes on and on and no one ever mentions it but i think it's quite interesting edit: i forgot a date
jeric_ synergy (4 months ago)
Yeah, that's nice and all, but the SUPER IMPRESSIVE THING is how long ago they figured this all out.
Sayan Ghosh (4 months ago)
why dont we use seconds? for both rotation and revolution of earth and abandon the 'minute-hour-day-year' thing. each year is 31.56 Ms (mega seconds = million seconds) and each day is 86.4 ks (86400 seconds)
David L. (4 months ago)
"that refuses to be divided nicely" except by 13 with just a solitary New Year's Day left over! i realize that this is almost never going to happen now because of how incredibly disruptive it would be to the everything, but if i had the opportunity to design the calendar system from scratch, i'd make it thirteen 28-day months with a monthless New Year's and Leap Day tacked on at the end/beginning. you could even keep seven-day weeks and days would land on the exact same dates every month. while having the New Year's and Leap Days also be "dayless" would certainly be in keeping with the tidiness of the system (so that you could reuse the exact same calendar every single year), i can also see the appeal of the days getting offset by 1 each year just for a bit of variety. with the inclusion of the Leap Year day, now i kinda want to crunch the numbers now to see how long before days land on the same date again in this system... or how long the whole cycle takes to repeat...
Champ (5 months ago)
Interesting fact, if we made all months 28 days, we could have 13 months in a year

There are four frequent types of years to be born in there are leap years (1904 1908 1912) 1st common years (1905 1909 1913) 2nd common years (1906 1910 1914) and 3rd common years (1907 1911 1915) Then again there are fourth common years but fourth common years are very very rare and unlikely fourth common years only happen once every hundred years because everytime we start a new century we skip a leap year unless its divisible by 400 1700 1800 1900 were fourth common years meaning that those next three years are 5th 6th and 7th common years but once you go to the fourth its back to a leap year however 2000 WAS a leap year beacause it was divisble by 400

The sun doesn’t expand until the year 5,000,000,000. And by that time the human race has already mastered interstellar travel, and has left that dumb rock behind years ago. Of course, some people don’t count those humans, but those people are just a bitchy trampoline.
Maria Duarte (6 months ago)
3:19 in theory the length of a day will expand to be as long as the current month but don't worry in practice it will take tens of billions of years and our own expanding sun will destroy us long before that happens. WHAT!?!
Feynstein 100 (3 months ago)
Well, the earth's rotation is slowing down. And the sun will expand and engulf the earth in about 5 billion years.
Maria Duarte (6 months ago)
Maybe you can skip the "divisible by 400" rule if it is divisible by 8,000, then it isn't a leap year. What's the error?
