Why pasta comes in all shapes and sizes | Small Thing Big Idea, a TED series

3046 ratings | 101645 views
Think twice when picking what pasta you want for dinner. The shape of your noodle makes a difference, explains Paola Antonelli, senior curator at The Museum of Modern Art. Small Thing Big Idea, a TED original series, celebrates the lasting genius of everyday objects so perfectly designed that they changed the world around them. How to talk for 3 minutes and say nothing that someone with common sense doesn't already know. This channel became a joke. A museum curator talking about culinary. As if just because shes Italian automatically has to know about pasta. Nothing has been said as to why pasta comes in different shapes and sizes other than "tastes and feels different". Oh, thank you captian obvious. Have a dislike and get someone with proper knowledge.

LMAO #FakeNews Pasta has been made in every country in one form or another. The shapes are very simply the result of individual artistry the women used for their families. Later pasta, like Tubetti and spirals, are simply commercial fads that drew attention for more sales. Shells were made by rolling the dough with the thumb in the palm of the hand and meat was placed on in them. The sauce was first used on pasta by Chinese. Yes, I am a food historian.

Fascinating! And yes, I agree, leave the pasta-making to the Italians! Anyone ever seen an Italian chef make pizza? They are THE best. Pizza, Pasta, Italia!!🇮🇹

I have such an idea that I can prove that if there is any thing in this world like ghost spirit or not, I cannot speak English, I can only speak in Hindi. I am from india my mobile number is this ( WhatsApp number ) +91 9997921424 . But I need a 10 by 10 lens for this, which I do not have, nor do I have enough money to buy such a big lens. If anyone gives me such a big lens, I will proof everything whether there is such a thing as a soul or not. And I will also proof whether an atheist is right or wrong. And which religions are wrong and which religions are from the same religion? All these religions are wrong. If I am not able to proof this, then I am ready to go on the cross. Not only this, I will also prove from this that what happens when we read any such thing like a dua or a mantra, etc. Are any gods or angels coming to protect us, all these things are nonsense. If any country of the world gives me this country, now whatever I need, then this discovery will be written in the history of that country which will be one of the greatest discoveries in the world. For this I am willing to bet with all the atheists of the world as well. But I do not know how to speak English, I can only speak Hindi. I am from india I have given you the mobile number above. If anyone gives me this, then call me on my mobile number and talk in Hindi. Thanks.

A scaffolding built on poor nutrition. Quinoa--- now that is a building block!
carefulcarpenter (1 month ago)
@WeirdestWolf I have many lines that come from "milk drinkers" and "sailors". The livestock was feed grain. The fish were wild. My head size is: 23" diameter. My shoe size is: 44 EUR My height is : 73.6180339" (6' 1.6180339") Weight: 212 lb. Eyes: blue. Bread and pasta have not been the foundation( scaffolding) in our diet. Thousands of years in the making. 😁
WeirdestWolf (1 month ago)
@carefulcarpenter Remember that calorific foods nowadays are considered bad due to the fact that food is never scarce in the western world, back when cultures like Italy were creating their food culture calorific was a good thing, it meant that you would actually be able to meet your intake without spending a fortune, hence why things like bread and starchy noodles/pasta/potatoes/rice meant that poorer families didn't starve to death in ancient societies. It also meant that children's brains grew properly as malnutrition is directly linked to brain size and intelligence, this allows poorer families and therefore society in general become more educated.
carefulcarpenter (1 month ago)
@WeirdestWolf Very reasonable thought. Thank you! adjective: *calorific* definition relating to the amount of energy contained in food or fuel. "she knew the calorific contents of every morsel" (of food or drink) containing many calories and so likely to be fattening. "there is fruit salad for those who can resist the more calorific concoctions"
WeirdestWolf (1 month ago)
Seeing as Italy is still one of the greatest and most influential countries in the world (Roman empire, latanic languages, cultural influence inc food, scientific and philisophical policies that are still taught today) and Peru/Bolivia/Colombia aren't, I have to disagree with you there. The whole reason pasta/wheat has become such a prevelant food is because it's so calorific relative to other crops and because it can be used in many different ways. Quinoa just doesn't have the necessary diversity that allows you to build an entire food culture upon. If you'd have said corn or rice or potatoes I might agree with you but wheat still takes the lead because almost every culture uses it or a similar grain to base a significant amount of it's staple food on.
